Me and my friend stayed in a private room with shared bathroom for 3 nights. Room was spacious, airy, CLEAN and very neat.
They style their rooms after countries, we lived in England: the Union Jack as curtain, the door was painted like a british phonebooth and so on. I heard rumours that in DDR you can sleep in a cut-up Trabbi. Their dorms I can't say anything about, but from what I heard from others, they seem to be fine. The bigger the dorm, the less you pay, or so I was told.
The hostel is quite big, but noise is not a problem at all. Apart from a love-struck bird outside the window every morning, but that's all right.
Well situated close to a S-Bahn station, and if you bring your car, free parking in the street around the corner from the hostel. You can rent bikes, but it's first come first serve. (btw, would totally recommend renting bikes when in Berlin, it's by far the easiest way to do all the touristy sightseeing stuff and get around in general)
The hostel is situated in the back of an appartment-block, you go to the backyard, not so well signed, but do-able.
Reception is open 24/7 (at nights you are buzzed in by the staff, and even if we came home very late - read early - there was no delay in us getting in), the reception also serves as bar/lounge/playroom. There were several other lounges, a well equipped kitchen, a balcony/terrace where the staff does bbq's and so on.
The shared bathrooms have a tendency to become flooded, but that's because the ones who took a shower before you are morons and don't clean up after themselves.
Staff is über-friendly and service-minded, even to oldies like me and my friend, the general age seemed quite young, early to mid 20's or something like that.
Linen and towels can be rented at a smal surcharge, clean and functional (and you don't have to lug it around with you). Free wi-fi, you get a username/pw at reception, works extremely well. I think you can buy breakfast, wouldn't know, we went out for food.
In general this hostel has a very homey feel, very friendly, open, warm and welcoming.
Met some really nice people there, would totally recommend this place to anyone, like the title says, this is one of the top 5 hostels I ever stayed at.
