“Baxi Paxi, probably the greatest hostel in the universe, many snojoes and great staff”

I'm from Iceland and i I wen't to Baxi Paxi with my school this month. We started the trip by getting one expensive snoojoe and one jagojago. The staff was greaty great and specially one man, everybody who have stayed in Baxi Paxi knows him, of course i'm talking about the man in the lobby. Someone would probably say that he is the greeatest man in the universe. We loved the bar and was always buying one Becksi Beck and one, two or three jago jago. We spent 4 days in Baxi Paxi and i wished that i could move there. I will hopefully come back to Baxi Paxi in May and that will be no doubt that i'm going have one snooooojoe when i get there, immideatly. My friend Gussi ( Money making machine) will pay, it's his birthday.

“Best City in the World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

We were on a budget wkend away and so I chose Baxpax because it seemed to be in a good area. Kreuzberg is full of cool second hand shops and funky bars. The food was beautiful in all the restaurants nearby and the drink was very cheap.. €2 a beer. The hostel was very clean and I found the staff very helpful and good fun in the bar. Although there wer only 2 toilets and 3 showers, there never seemed to be a que. All the rooms have a country theme too, which is cool.
Going back in the summer and I think Ill probably stay there again. LOVED IT!

“Unsafe stay with irresponsible management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

I had an extremely bad experience with Baxpax Kreuzberg and wanted to post a review so that other travelers would be aware and know what they were getting into. Without going into too much detail, here is a brief outline of our stay there and things that went wrong that could have been easily mitigated:

1) Upon checking in, my group of 3 was informed that they had overbooked the 7-bed dorms we had reserved and we were put into the 32-bed dorm

2) The 32-bed dorm was located in a wholly different building than reception and the rest of the rooms. The entrance to the 2nd building was secured by one flimsy lock on the door (no key card, not even a real door lock).

3) Feeling nervous, my group and I rented a lock and put our valuables in a locker...

4) Two nights later, we returned to our hostel at ~2am to find that our lock had been cut and all our valuables in the locker were taken (passports, cameras, phones, iPods, etc.)

5) When speaking with the staff, we were informed that this had happened MULTIPLE times before by the same two neighborhood delinquents who routinely broke into the 32-bed dorm and stole valuables out of the lockers.

6) When we spoke to the night watchman to see if he had seen any intruders, he reeked of marijuana and whiskey and clearly hadn't been paying attention

7) Furthermore, Baxpax Kreuzberg HAD a secure vault at the receptionists' and had neglected to inform us when we rented a lock---wouldn't you think that if multiple thefts had happened before you would advise guests to put their valuables in the secured vault at reception for no cost instead of making them rent locks to lockers that kept getting broken into?

8) Finally, when we spoke with management we were informed that they were not responsible for anything (in aggregate the robbery cost us over ~$3,000 in valuables and document replacement fees); it took management about 2 days to decide to even refund us our room fees there

“On my top 5 list of hostels....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Me and my friend stayed in a private room with shared bathroom for 3 nights. Room was spacious, airy, CLEAN and very neat.
They style their rooms after countries, we lived in England: the Union Jack as curtain, the door was painted like a british phonebooth and so on. I heard rumours that in DDR you can sleep in a cut-up Trabbi. Their dorms I can't say anything about, but from what I heard from others, they seem to be fine. The bigger the dorm, the less you pay, or so I was told.

The hostel is quite big, but noise is not a problem at all. Apart from a love-struck bird outside the window every morning, but that's all right.
Well situated close to a S-Bahn station, and if you bring your car, free parking in the street around the corner from the hostel. You can rent bikes, but it's first come first serve. (btw, would totally recommend renting bikes when in Berlin, it's by far the easiest way to do all the touristy sightseeing stuff and get around in general)
The hostel is situated in the back of an appartment-block, you go to the backyard, not so well signed, but do-able.

Reception is open 24/7 (at nights you are buzzed in by the staff, and even if we came home very late - read early - there was no delay in us getting in), the reception also serves as bar/lounge/playroom. There were several other lounges, a well equipped kitchen, a balcony/terrace where the staff does bbq's and so on.
The shared bathrooms have a tendency to become flooded, but that's because the ones who took a shower before you are morons and don't clean up after themselves.

Staff is über-friendly and service-minded, even to oldies like me and my friend, the general age seemed quite young, early to mid 20's or something like that.

Linen and towels can be rented at a smal surcharge, clean and functional (and you don't have to lug it around with you). Free wi-fi, you get a username/pw at reception, works extremely well. I think you can buy breakfast, wouldn't know, we went out for food.

In general this hostel has a very homey feel, very friendly, open, warm and welcoming.

Met some really nice people there, would totally recommend this place to anyone, like the title says, this is one of the top 5 hostels I ever stayed at.
