In my experience Gaybed was an inexpensive, no-frills room in a pre-war building... I rented a bicycle on Augustrasse so getting around wasn't a problem; my room faced a courtyard and the birds were chirping, it was pretty peaceful. Apparently this part of Berlin wasn't damaged too heavily in the war; the old buildings in the neighborhood are fascinating if you're into that kind of thing... The price was great, everything was clean, I skipped breakfast and picked up groceries @ Lidl around the corner on Quitzowstrasse. There are several Arab shops in the area, their olives were delicious. I would stay there again the next time I get to Berlin. By the way, the best way to see Berlin is on a bicycle - It is one of the most interesting places I've ever been - particularly when the Wall was up...
