We stayed at Angleterre Hotel last week (29 Jan - 1 Feb, 2012). It is in a great location - literally a 2 minute walk to Checkpoint Charlie where you can hop on tourist buses (if that is your thing) and the U Bahn Station of Kochstrasse is just across the road.
If you turn right outside the hotel towards Checkpoint Charlie and along Friedrichstrasse you'll head up towards some nice shops (all closed on a Sunday) and the large Friedrichstrasse S Bahn.
Turn left out of the hotel and you can head to Kreuzeberg for the edgier independent stores, cafes and bars but jumping on the U Bahn will get you there much quicker.
The hotel is nice, clean and unfussy. We didn't really have much interaction with the hotel staff other than check in and out but they were pleasant.
Breakfast was great; one day was continental with a great selection of cheese, meats, cereals, yoghurts and fruits. The other days there was also a hot breakfast too. It is buffet style and certainly sets you up for the day.
The rooms are quite plain and also unfussy but importantly they are spotlessly clean. Nothing fancy pretty basic but we were only in them to sleep as were out exploring the rest of the time.
Totally recommend the hotel for a couple of days exploring Berlin - great location and a cracking breakfast!
