I have to say that i have no criticisms of the hotel in terms of cleanliness or comfort. The beds were adequet and the rooms and bathroom were very clean. They also provided a (admittedly incredibly thin) towel. However the layout of the hotel means that any noise echoed down the halls incredibly loudly. I was leading a group of teenagers from my school, and we abided by the curfew of 10pm perfectly. Unfortunately there was a group of German teens who did not do so on any of the nights that we stayed there. We informed the management of the problem, and they did check up and tell off the German students, but we had been warned of night time guards checking up on any noise makers and issuing warnings. We saw none of them throughout our stay.
Also we were on the 6th floor, directly below the restaurant on the top floor. However at 3am every morning the staff were obviously moving something heavy across the floor making a hell of a racket in our rooms, and waking every single one of us every night. As a consequence I slept worse here than I would have at home (with an incredibly restless 16 month old in the house!)
The location is fine, although the area is a little dodgy. I wouldnt feel entirely safe walking through it on my own.

Meininger hostel is good value for money, a bit institutionalized so nothing particularly nice or fancy. As we were a group of five and didn't care much about the accomodation it was ok, our room clean enough and very warm when outsde temperatures were dramatically dropping down. We only spent there the time needed for sleeping and recharging our batteries, and never had the chance to try the buffet breakfast because of the late wake up. But good remedy is the bakery next door, that is a good and cheap one. Short walk to the U-bahn that takes you everywhere in the city.
All this said, this is good choice for budget conscious travellers. But would not recommend to couples since there's not enough 'atmosphere'

I have been traveling for years across the world and to be honest I never seen such a clean, quite and friendly hostel. Just to name one kind thing is that I bought a wireless code for 1 eur and since my iPhone broke down they changed the code for me to a 2eur code for the PC station that was there. Also They had a nice lounge room where one could use internet for free and the room I was staying was immaculate clean and as good as a 3 star hotel. View on the back in a very quite but central neighborhood. I'd definitely stay here again anytime!

This hotel is good for people travelling on a budget. It's cheap. In every aspect.
The rooms a big enough and the bathroom is well kept, but that's about it. The beds are very bad, my back did not like them. If you want to use an electric charger for your computer or phone, check the wall socket before you plug it in, it can fall apart. The reception on the TV is awful, some channels are useless because of it.

So, is there anything good about it? Yes, as I said, it's cheap, also, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is not bad. It's also very close to U-Bahn and a very good italian restaurant is just 50 meters away. Within 20 minutes walk there are many more excellent restaurants and also Checkpoint Charlie, if you are interested.

So, if you are on a budget, by all means stay here, but for just a little bit more money you can get a much better hotel.
