“It's a bit far from the tourist attractions but great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We booked this as a late deal and was pleasantly surprised by the value for money. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. The corridors are very long and it's easy to get lost especially with being distracted by the Andy Warhol art on the wall. We didn't eat breakfast here but there are a lot of nice restaurants and germans pubs a few streets away and there is a carrefour round the courner that opens quite late. All in all, good value for a small price.

Dear Markbetsan,

thank you for your kind feedback. We really appreciate it.
Just a small information regarding our location: Berlin has several "centers" and we are in the middle of west Berlin. Therefore we are just minutes away from the most famour shopping street "Ku'damm" with Kadewe and the Zoologischen Garten. Most of the other tourist attractions can be easily reached by public transport, which is just around the corner.
On behalf of my team I would like to thank you for your visit and hope to see you again when you are back in Berlin.

Best wishes,

Katja Hagenbucher

“Just an OK hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I travelled to Berlin for business reasons and stayed at the art'otel west for 2 nights. I was inspired by the reviews from previous guests plus attractive price for a double room, and decided to book a room. The personnel at the reception was kind from the start, although always very busy and a bit stressed. It is true that it's well located, if you don't mind walking10 minutes under the rain to get to the closest metro station. It is only 100 meters from one of the most well-known shopping streets in Berlin (K-damm) if you're interested in that. The rooms were very clean, and with all the comfort expected in a 3 stars hotel (and nothing more, nothing extra, nothing "luxurious"). The TV was very old (not flat screen) and had only German channels. The WI-FI connection was excellent, and I was on the 6th floor. ..

All in all it was ok, except from one episode: the room was very cold at night. The first night I tried to check the AC and adjust it myself, but to my surprise I found no "switch". I called the reception and they explained very kindly that the whole heating system is centrally managed for all the floors (thus one cannot regulate the temperature as desired) and that I should understand that it is hard to please everyone's needs. "Some find it too hot others too cold" (Exact words). And thus what they usually do, when enough guests complain at the same time, is to switch it on and high for some time until the guests call back complaining because it's too warm. She promised they would do that again. Moral: I slept with a sweater, socks and double cover (and I swear I'm not someone that usually suffers from being cold!)

Close to the hotel (like 10 minutes walking) it's Savignyplatz, a beautiful and charming area full of cozy restaurants, cafes and small designers shops. You should check it out, especially at night! And for breakfast I'd recommend you the cafe that it's right underneath the entrance to Savigny train station, next to a bookshop. Actually, you shouldn't pay for having breakfast at the hotel, as it's plenty of beautiful cozy bars all around where you'll have a lot nicer breakfast at a lot lower price.

Also, if you're going to Berlin for a Fair at the Messe Berlin, this is the right place to stay since it is very close and easy to get both with public transportation and by taxi (only 8 euros).

Dear MarianLei,

we appreciate your feedback which you posted on Tripadvisor.
First of I would like to apologize if you found the room temperature a bit too cold. You can change the temperate slighty by adjusting it directly in your room via the a/c switch. I am sorry if you have been misinformed during your recent stay with us.
I would also like to inform you that we have just finished the extension of our hotel by the end of last year, which means we have now 61 additional bedrooms in a new style inlcuding new flat-screen televisions. Just ask for one of those next time.
Also we are a 4* property. Very sorry if you had the feeling that this is not the case, however we have been classified by DEHOGA as such and also have the features for that. Please contact me directly if you feel that we can do something different to be more accommodating for our guests.

On behalf of our entire staff here at the art'otel berlin city center west we would like to thank you for your visit and we hope to see you again when your travels bring you back to the area!

Sincerely,

Katja Hagenbucher

Excellent hotel. The room was well equipped and the staff were very knowledgeable (especially Santiago!) and very friendly. A great base for exploring Berlin. Would be happy to stay here again, highly recommended.

“Enjoyable stay and great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I stayed here 3 nights and would happily stay again. I was upgraded to one of their larger rooms (possibly due to Club Carlson membership?) and thought it was fabulous. The room was beautifully (and quirkily) decorated, and was very well laid out with plenty of desk space, loads of electric sockets, a comfortable bed, good lighting, and a good bathroom (walk-in shower, nice amenities). The teas and hot chocolate in the room were good quality, and it was nice to have a robe even if I didn't use it. It was spotless and I slept very well with no external noise at all.

Wifi was free. It's not fast but it's adequate for planning a leisure trip and keeping in touch with home. We didn't eat breakfast there (15 euros for american style buffet) but walked 10 minutes to Schwarzes Cafe. There are supermarkets very close by, and the location is good for public transport.

I think the concept of the hotel is to appear laid-back and a bit hip, and the common areas are a bit designerly sparse, but the underlying service is as you would expect from the Radisson chain, and nothing seemed to be too much bother. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming, and it was nice to sit at the bar in the evening with our laptops and plan where we were going.

There was a sauna which I didn't try.

I would recommend it to friends and I would stay again.

As you have seen, we have just finished our renovation and I am pleased that you liked the new style. Shame you didn't have enough time to use our new sauna and gym-hopefully next time though.
