“Triple room top marks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

The much maligned stairs were not an issue for us as we were given a room around the corner from reception. Though you do have the steps at the entrance to contend with. To be fair, most of the places we have stayed in have had at least 5 stairs. But a ramp may be helpful alternative.
The hotel itself is elegant and spotlessly clean. The triple room we booked had an adjoining room, which was a big plus. This was great as it allowed privacy for our 17 year old. We thought the breakfast was more than adequate, by European standards. There was a coffee machine in our room, but could not figure out how to use it. A down side of all European hotels as opposed to S.E Asia is that no tea or coffee making facilities are provided. So if you want a "cuppa" out of hours, you pay for it!
I booked through booking.com and emailed the hotel to get directions as we were arriving from Tegel, at night. I have to say their response was precise right down to timing of trains and buses.
The Wifi was patchy, but we did get two passwords so we could use more than 1 device.
Overall, we were happy and would definitely stay again.

We used the laundry service and found it reasonably inexpensive.

Room Tip: Request room on same floor as reception

“Very convenient location and nicely designed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Located just a few meters from the Uhlandstrasse metro station. You can access anywhere in Berlin without taking care of weather, whether it is cold, windy or really hot. Rooms are nicely designed, taking care of the original atmosphere of the old building. Reaching our room was a bit tricky, had to go upstairs with our luggage and breakfast could be better but I strongly recommend this hotel for touristic stays, if you can carry your own luggage.

“Excellent location, but challenging stairs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I picked the Augusta for the location which is excellent, with easy access to different parts of the city. The reception is not on the ground floor, so anyone with a large suitcase will struggle up the stairs. I had booked and prepaid a superior double room, but was put up in a minuscule room at the back (no 49), not even with a writing desk, but after complaining, was transferred to a slightly better room (no 10), but definitely not a superior room. The rooms and hotel were impeccably clean. The reception staff friendly. I liked the breakfast table, which varied and of good quality. The wifi worked more or less. No Bar or Cafe.

Room Tip: Make sure to confirm the quality of the room, before paying. The rooms at the front seem to be nice.

“Great location. Room nice, but not satisfactory.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

So many good things about this hotel, I wish I could give it 5 stars. Great location if you are looking to stay in Kurfürstendamm area of Berlin. Our booking.com price was about 140 euro per night for a Superior Double (including tax) which I thought was good value for area. The room rate includes a nice breakfast and free in-room internet. The room had amenities, like a hair dryer, towel warmer, coffee maker, snack fridge, etc. We could stroll the streets in the area, even after dark, and feel safe. There are several places in the hotel where stairs are required, so be prepared to carry your bag up a flight of stairs or two or three if you stay here. There is a Starbuck's about 1/2 block away and plenty of good restaurants to choose from in walking distance.

So why only 3 stars? I had read the reviews and wanted to avoid some of the pitfalls noted by other reviewers, so thought I was solving the problem by booking a "superior" double. Not so. Our assigned 5th floor rooms had sky lights, not windows. 5th floor in Berlin and we couldn't even see the city outside! Also, I require a cool room, so made sure I booked an "air-conditioned" room. Mine wasn't. The hotel was full, so they couldn't accommodate changing my room. The sky lights opened, so that solved the temperature problem the first night, but added lots of street noise. By the second day, the rain started and the sky lights had to be shut. The room was stuffy and hot with no way to resolve it. After three nights of limited, uncomfortable sleeping I was ready to leave.

I would consider staying there again if I booked directly with the hotel and clarified the specifics of the room I was reserving.

Room Tip: There are rooms that have balconies, which might be available if you advance booked directly with ho...

“Really nice hotel”

It was a little boutique hotel but very nice. Clean nice staff (Well the guy on the first night wasn't very helpful!) but everyone else was. Front desk staff pointed us in the right direction when we wanted to head out & see the sights. Rooms were nice, big & comfy! My sister is allergic to the feather pillows & they happily changed them for us - no hassle! I would recommend this hotel and would consider staying here again as it was very central to everything we wanted to see :)
