“Great Value in the Middle of Berlin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at the Park Inn Alexanderplatz for a conference in December 2011. This hotel's location was incredibly convenient. It is literally right in the center of Alexanderplatz, which means plenty of shops, restaurants, and sights are right outside your door. The view of the Fernsehturm (Berlin's TV Tower) from my room was not to be believed, and I did not even pay extra for a higher room.

The service of the hotel staff was great. There were a few minor problems with my room - the heater was stuck on high and at some point a fuse blew and the power outlets stopped working - but each time a staff member was sent up and fixed the problem with no delay.

Everything was very clean. Check-in was a breeze, but check-out took a long time due to the line. I don't think there is much the hotel can do about this, they were all working very quickly and just got rushed by a group of people I suppose. The food I ate at the hotel restaurant on the first floor was quite good, if a bit expensive for Berlin.

The only downside to the Park Inn is the rather peculiar layout of its rooms. The double bed in mine was just two single mattresses pushed together, which wasn't the most comfortable arrangement. The desk area near my window was pretty cramped.

The most interesting aspect of the room by far was the bathroom setup. There is no separation between the bathing area and the sleeping area. The toilet was in a small closet by itself right by the door, and the sink was right next to my bed. A glass-walled shower stall stood in between, so you can see right in to the shower from anywhere in the room. Either book separate rooms for everyone you're traveling with, or be prepared to get a lot more intimate with your travel companions.

Room Tip: The view of the pricier rooms higher up is probably worth it, but I had a splendid view of Alexander...

“Huge hotel in central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Hotel is very large, around 35 floors and I guess not less then 650 rooms. It's not my favorite choice in terms of hotel size (I'd rather prefer small ones) but the location is at least very good: central, many restaurants around and tube + over-ground train a few steps away from the door. Room was ok, just a bit small. Anyway well furnished and with large flat screen LED TV. Breakfast OK with a wide selection of salty and sweety dishes. Internet in the room, cabled, only with extra 18€ fee daily. There is a bar on the roof terrace, which looks wondeful, at least during summer time, I could not taste it as outside is -18 °C today.

“Great view, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed in the hotel for 6 days. We payed a little extra for a view, and I can say that it worth. A complete view of Berlin lies in front of you, tv tower in the middle. Location is great too. Underground, tram and train stops are just in front of the hotel. There are many places in front of the hotel, just under the train station for breakfast because it is much more to do that at the hotel. And wifi is unfortunately not free in the hotel, including the lobby. Closest free wifi is at the Starbacks, just under the tv tower. Overall it is a nice hotel to stay with very reasonable price.

“Ok hotel, wonderful view, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel once was the first choice when Comecon representatives were visiting the capital of the GDR. Nowadays, the main feature is it's height. The view to Alexanderplatz, Unter den Linden and the rest of Mitte is wonderful. The rooms are rather bland. The hotel has undergone some renovation the last decade, but it still isn't especially fancy in any way. A large drawback is the lack of WiFi. The only Internet connection is a cable which costs 18 Euros per day! In a modern hotel free WiFi is a must.

“Decent hotel good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The hotel has a good location and if you get a high floor then great view to go with it.

The entrances are pretty rubbish and the lobby is small the front desk had about 4 staff so the check in queue lasted not more than 10 mins, although that's still muh more than I am used to.

The first room ( we had to change) was modern and nice. The TV was annoying though and had a mind of it's own. The 'bathroom' is effectively a shower/toilet and a sink area within the room that you can conceal with a curtain the door to the toilet is also the door to the shower. I didn't like this, it was not trendy if thats why they thought and essentially pretty annoying. I think the only reason they did it wa s otherwise there is simply not enough room. The bed was comfy.

The first night, after a night out the two rooms either side decided to make a load of noise. We can handle this but when we ourselves got in at 4am and they were still screaming at 6 am(!) and running from room to room banging their doors we had stern words with them twice before calling security to shut them up. This wasn't helped by the gap between the door and floor that lets sound in. Anyway later that day we asked to be moved. The receptionist said sorry and we were moved. The next room was on floor 30 with a better view. The room was older and the silly attempt at a bathroom had no curtain this time. The bed was old and the mattress had collapsed on one side.

On the whole the hotel disappointed but I I have never stayed at a park inn so maybe this is just normal and I am being overly harsh.

The 19euro per person breakfast is a joke though.
