This hotel certainly has charm and personality-dark wood, flourishes, rich colors. The room key was attached to a huge brass piece-also charming but heavy to tote around during all-day sightseeing. The hotel was a little run-down and promised wi-fi access didn't work during my entire stay-I had to use the public computer in a small room next to the kitchen that was dark and smelly. Its location is very convenient as it's close to bus lines and major subway stops; it's on a quiet street off the main, bustling, shopping drag of Ku'damm. There are a flight of stairs and elevators, a small restaurant and a seating area with newspapers. Staff were courteous and helpful with directions. I stayed in two rooms. I loved how spacious the first room was, and the tall curtains and windows that opened out into a quiet courtyard. The mattress was old and caved in the middle, causing a backache. The bathroom was small and clean, but the shower head didn't stay put and was difficult to use. The second room was on the topmost floor and featured large skylights above the bed that swung open; I heard birds singing to welcome the dawn. The mattresses were newer and more supportive, but this room heated up quickly on sunny days and filled up with cigarette smoke from nearby rooms. The bathroom was also very clean. Overall, I enjoyed some features but would not stay here again.
