“Basic for a weekend in Berlin”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

This is not for a romantic weekend break in Berlin. This is a functional hotel which offer a bedroom with en suite and buffet continental breakfast. The hotel is a 10 minute stroll from Charlottenburg Station (S-Bahn which is the overground) and 5 minutes from Adenauerplatz (U-bahn which is the underground) although we always used the S-Bahn as it is quicker and more convenient for where we are going.

Despite offering 24 hour service, we experienced reluctance from the reception desk for our check out at 6:30 (required for travel) although this may have been the specific individual.

The shower holder in the shower did not work (necessitating this being held to shower) and despite reporting to reception this was never fixed. [All that was needed was a screwdriver to tighten the screw - or potentially a replacement - but the concept was lost on the team at reception.]

It is only a short walk to the History of Berlin (worth a visit) and the Sightseeing Bus which leaves from Kurfürstendamm. Be warned there are long queues to get on the bus - and even longer ones to get on the Boat Trip (badly managed by a short tempered bloke!). I would suggest you take a separate boat trip. The sightseeing tour does take in all the key sights.

Also worth a visit is the Reichstag but note you have to book your appointment in advance and you must take photo id (you need to go through a tight security check much like the airports to get in).

We went for a Hertha Berlin game at the Olympic Stadium which is very impressive. You can tour the stadium up until 6pm for €8 and the infrastructure for getting to/from games also excellent.

“very bad!!”

We were shocked by this hotel which does not deserve more than one star if any. It has been built in the last century for sure, lifts are very old, bad smell inside, staff not helpful (we made reservation for 2 superior double-bed rooms and had one triple room and another twin-bed room, although well-mentioned in our reservation, they told us that the only 2 real double-bed rooms were already occupied) It is important to precise that the two single beds cannot be brought together (mattresses remain 8 cm apart). Hotel is not very far from metro (around 10 min walking) and from bus (5 min) but it is not close to the center. It is situated near a high-class shopping street. Breakfast is generous (milk, coffee, juice, sausages, ham, cheese, bread, honey, eggs, yogurt). Rooms are very spacious, mattress not bad but overall impression is bad!

“For a 3-star hotel I suppose it was OK.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Our room was big, high ceiling and high windows, black wooden furniture and black leather sofa. Not too appealing to the eye. Bathroom was clean as was the room, reading light was only for one bed, which was not good. Breakfast was ok. Under the TV there was a minibar warm and smelly and empty.

“Good Location & Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

The hotel is just off the Ku Damm with good quality basic rooms. The rooms were kept clean and the bathroom was more of a shower/ wetroom but was well kitted out. We had occasion to report a problem with the lighting and someone was there to remedy the problem within 20 mins. I have read comments about it being noisy yes I suppose it is but you are staying in the centre of a city you are hardly likely to hear the morning chorus of skylarks ! It is very easy to get into central Berlin using the buses on the Ku damm which were very frequent. I must recommend the Berlin welcomecard as it is great value for money with loads of info and very detailed maps of certain areas. I would recommend it to any one who wants a good basic room and breakfast. The hotel appeared to be popular with all nationalities. and would stay there again when next in Berlin.
Just do not expect the Ritz at Premier Inn/ Ibis Prices

“Convenient hotel, no frills, but useful extras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011
2

On a bus route from the main airport was a useful starter and although the room was fairly basic it was large enough for 3 adults to spread out in, although there was only one chair available. Our room did not have a balcony and nor would any of the rooms on the front of the building. With the windows open there was a fair amount of road noise, but as the ventilation system was inadequate, we generally tolerated this. The breakfast was very comprehensive and everyone seemed to consume large portions. The food was replenished rapidly and even when we ate late there was plenty. Reception staff were courteous and it was useful being able to print off check in tickets for the airport.
