“Fab location and lovely hotel”

I had looked at reviews on Tripadvisor for some time before deciding upon this hotel and having returned from Berlin I can say we were vey pleased with our choice. Getting to the hotel is very easy, just jump on the airport express train for 3 euros and it takes you straight to Alexander Platz, it is then only a short walk to the hotel. The road the hotel is on seems a little run down (don't be put off it's completely safe!!). You walk 100 metres or so and you're in Hakescher Market which is a great area!! Fab bars, restaurants, shops and galleries. You could spend days just wondering around it!

The hotel itself was fine for what we wanted, nice rooms, sauna and steam room in the hotel basement. and the staff were very efficient. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that.

Food wise near the hotel, for lunch try Dolores. Sells a huge choice of burritos which are fab and huge!! Also you cannot miss Barcomis deli, this place is seriously good for cakes and coffee. If you like Thai food there is a restaurant called Thai Inside just a minute from the hotel which location wise doesn't look amazing but the food is! Also the Oranium is lovely. Opposite the Oranium is a grat pub called Aufsturz, I've never seen so many different beers on a menu!

Overall we had a lovely time in Berlin.

“Not as good as it thinks it is!”

Our stay(for five nights)got off to an horrendous start as,when we tried to check in,they had no idea of our booking due to incompetence by the booking agency in the UK.There being a film festival in Berlin that week we were informed that they would be unable to accomodate us for the five nights and this would be the same for Berlin as a whole. To cut a long story short we managed to get a room in the end at exorbitant rates.I would like to say that the head receptionist couldn't have been more helpful after all the booking error was not their fault and they are running a business(supply and demand).
The room was very spacious and spotless but oh that air-con!!!The room was roasting!!!Also there is no bath-tub(which we knew about before we arrived)but when you end up paying three times the amount you paid for in the uk it is quite a negative.
As in other reviews you cannot get a better location to see the main sights of Berlin none of which we found to be more than an half hour's stroll away.Let me tell you that the best thing we did was to go on "the Insider Walking tour which takes four hours and you dont need to book just turn up at one ther two starting points-ours was outside a coffee shop at Hackescher Markt.five minutes walk from the Alexander!!Our guide was an Aussie called Penelope(call me Pen)who had extensive knowledge and made everything very intersesting(her mannerisms reminded me of the dark haired lady who does the "Hotel Inspector"on tv.Also,if you sign up for another other of their trips you get a discount-we did but that's another story!!Suffice to say its the best 12 euro you'll spend in Berlin.
To find a great selection of restaurants within strolling distance leave the hotel and head for Hackescher Markt, turn left on Oranienburger st.Let me recommend one-"Oranium"-god tasty food ,impeccable service and very reasonably priced.
My review may seem a bit harsh for the Alexander Plaza but the issue with the air-con was a huge negative(I dread to think what it would be like in summer).Lastly, just let me say that Berlin was terrific-Good food,Great public transport and historically, one of the most interesting places you'll ever visit.

“Great Hotel.Central. modern, warm and spotlessly clean room.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

We stayed in this hotel before Christmas, 2010. The weather was -14degrees outside so it was a pleasure to arrive back to a very warm, quiet and comfortable room. breakfast each morning was in very pleasant surroundings as we watched the waitress meticulously set the dining tables around us. There was a great selection of food available, down to a variety of health food seeds for cereals! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet central to Unter den Linden and around the corner from the S- bhan.

“Great Hotel”

Stayed 30Dec - 3Jan for New Year. On arrival were told given non-smoking room although had requested smoking. We were told there were no smoking rooms left. We accepted this and did not make a fuss. However the reception staff tried without our knowledge to change the room to smoking and succeeded. So right from the start were impressed with this hotel. The buffet breakfast was excellent and again so were the staff. Room was very modern and clean and we could not fault it. The hotel was situated close to all the transport systems and we travelled extensively on the excellent Berlin system (purchaed Welcome Card) Had a great time watching fireworks at midnight in Alexanderplatz. Have been to Brandenburg Gate previous year and tfound Alexanderplatz much better. Could not find anything wrong with this hotel and would recomment if to anyone.

“Clever option in Berlin”

I spent 3 nights at Alexander Plaza and it overcame my expectations: excellent location, great and healthy breakfast, gentle staff. The only problems were the pillow (that can't be called "a pillow") and the bathroom (after taking a shower, the entire bathroom was soaked!).
