We really liked this hotel - OK it's in the former East so bit far out, but transportation simple and efficient - UBahn 5 - Tierpark stop - is short stroll and goes to Alexanderplatz, and tram M17 across the road. There's a big Kaiser's (food, drink, baker's, coffee to go) supermarket and even a McDonald's near the UBahn stop.

Breakfast buffet extensive and good, packing up at 9.50 for 10. We found staff helpful and friendly though maybe does help that I speak German? Room (ours on 8th floor) airy and spacious - as most German hotels (why?) no coffee-making materials.

From airport to hotel: take S9 to Frankfurter Allee, walk to end of platform take lift to street, then walk a little and turn right, across to other lift in UBahn station then down to platform to U5 to Tierpark. Takes longer to describe than do! Getting a travel card in the airport for 24/48/72 hours makes it all so easy.

stayed four nights in sept. i did not find the staff very helpful in giving directions or helping with the room. room was basic. i had a single very small bed no A/C but had a large window that opened. Maid and min bar just came in room without knocking. large breakfast buffet if you like cold eggs and hot dogs. lunch meat was good. it took over 1 hour to get from airport to hotel i took the bus fro airport to the underground then another 20min ride to tierpark. there is a sign saying what exit to take but after that you have to guess which way to go. if you have large suitcase you do not want to go in the wrong direction. finally asked someone and he looked it up on his phone and pointed me in the right direction about 400m from exit. I did not like this hotel because if weather is bad walking to metro is long andcold andwet i would pay a little more and get a more central location next time

A very pleasant hotel, situated 200 metres from tube (Ubahn) station, with direct access to central Berlin in about 20 minutes. Big, clean, comfortable room, very quiet. Nice bathroom, everything worked. Comfortable bed. Staff couldn't do enough for us, and they all seemed to have very good English. Stayed here with two friends for four nights in order to 'see' Berlin. Buffet breakfast with good selection of hot and cold food. Pleasant restaurant for dinner in the evening, which was a changing buffet. There is a little 'eaterie' just around the corner if you get buffet-boredom. Tea and coffee on tap in the bistro/bar at all hours of day and night. We had to wait until 7 p.m. for the taxi to pick us up for the airport coming home, and at no time did we feel the staff wanted to push us out. Yes, we loved the Tierpark - very good value for money.

I thought of Abacus Tierpark hotel as value for money package. Ostensibly it is 4 star hotel. We stayed in this hotel for 2 days while we were in Berlin. Here is my take about it.

Rooms
Since we were family with 2 small kids, they offered us a triple room. The room was huge for its size. It was also very clean. It had a big 32" LCD TV and international channels. What would have been nicer is to have a water boiler and Tea/Coffee making facilities inside the room.

We didn't opt for the breakfast but from what I heard, it is quite good.

Location
It's about 5 min. walking distance from nearest metro station (Tierpark on U5 line). Tierpark - which our walking tour guide informed is better Zoo - is small walk across the road. Superstore, Cafe and Fast Food Chain are nearby as well.

Staff
Staff was very helpful and check-in was fast. Staff spoke reasonably good English and explained the amenities provided quickly.

Other niceties
Sadly, there is no Free Internet Terminal around Reception.
