I had a comfortable stay at Econtel hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the city centre (by bus). Rooms were clean and breakfast was of a good choice! The only negative thing which I will mention is the glass door to the bathroom. This was a little weird as I shared with a friend!

Hotel location is good especially if you are coming from the airport Tegel. Public transport works great, from the airport to the hotel in less than 10 minutes. Bus route from the hotel to the city center are also good. Near the hotel is a beautiful castle Charlottenburg, and also the peaceful promenade along the river.

I was in a single clean, comfortable and cozy room. The toilet is a relatively small but obvious renovated and clean. The bed was comfortable, and also a sofa.

Writing desk is large enough to accommodate a laptop, papers, a cup of coffee and other small items. All rooms have free internet connection.

Breakfast is buffet style, with a large selection of cheese and ham.

However, staff is the best in the hotel. These are young people who are extremely professional, pleasant and smiling in the most positive sense.

1st impressions were sceptical, but all in all not a bad hotel for the money.
Stayed here for 3 nights and the room was nice and clean although a little on the small side and did not have any air con which made the nights a bit uncomfortable. Consequently, sleeping with the window open meant a mosquito invasion so i'd suggest packing a plug-in or candle to fight them off!
Reasonable location with a large good supermarket hidden around the corner (closed sundays). Good links to main city and a handful of restaurants and cafes within 5 mins walking radius.
Large, comfortable beds, clean bathroom with shower/wet area. Hairdryer provided. Wi-Fi available, telephone and TV in room. Staff spoke very good english and were helpful although not particularly cheerful.
Main city centre is a little further than we expected and probably too far to walk for many but bus links make it available.
Car park available at cost but if you're lucky, you may be able to grab a free spot out the front.
I'd recommend getting the 'hop-on, hop-off' tour buses running every 10-15 mins for a great overview of such a large city.
Overall, i'd probably choose to stay a little closer to the centre in future but for the price, you can't really complain!

... except on my last stay, 27th, April, 2011 - 1st, May, 2011 I was not treated with very much respect.

Before I get into the details I want to share with all who might be thinking of staying at the Econtel in Berlin. The hotel is located in a great location next to bus lines and a few minuets walking distance to the Charlottenburg palace and its beautiful garden and safe biking paths (the hotel rent bikes at a great price, 7.50 euro for one whole day) and not to mention the hotel's incredibly yummy buffet breakfast... heavenly! The rooms are a bit small but I don't go to Europe to stay in hotel rooms all day.

Here's my only small gripe.

All the receptionist working at the front desk.

It saddens me deeply to say ANYTHING bad about the hotel, for I have stayed with them on 4 different other occasions when I had vacationed in the beautiful city of Berlin.

I'm not what you might call an overly sensitive person but when I see people giggling for what seems to be for no apparent reason I worry my fly might be unzipped, or maybe I have my baseball cap turned sideways on my head. I noticed these fits of giggling on 3 occasions throughout my stay at the hotel. I felt offended. I can't recall wearing a clown nose or oversize large red floppy shoes. If this is what made all the receptionist chuckle I can appreciate this but I wasn't wearing any such items on my person.

Maybe I am way too overly sensitive, or, maybe I should have asked them what the bloody hel* they were all laughing at?!

I felt like Rodney Dangerfield.

Anyway.

I absolutely love Econtel Hotel Berlin, I highly recommend anyone to stay there. Anyone who isn't bothered by random outburst of giggling from well-dressed unprofessional desk clerks.

Important note; In all my stays at the hotel this was the only time I was slightly annoyed with the new faces who are now working at the Econtel Hotel Berlin behind the reception counter.
