Unlike other reviews, I am writing regarding a school visit. This might not be relevant to regular users so you probably won't want to bother reading this. However, if you are taking a school party, you really need to.
The hotel itself is fine for what it is. It is functional and comfortable although the comments about lack of air con and noisy roads make warm nights difficult. Food is decent although fairly underwhelming (specially for school parties this, I assume food for holiday makers and business people is very different.) There are vending machines that contain alcohol which need to be monitored but, as long as your kids are well drilled, these shouldn't cause any problems. The problems began when it came to checking out. Cleaning staff were dispatched to check the rooms to ensure the kids hadn't trashed their rooms (which I had no problem with). However, before we knew it, the hotel were telling us that there was damage in 6 rooms and the cost was going to be 720 euros. This was for damage to a lamp, a broken door frame, a broken shower tray and cleaning to several carpets. Having checked the rooms ourselves prior to this and found nothing wrong, this came as quite a shock. I went up to the rooms to see for myself and found a lamp that had been damaged before and fixed (by balancing it back on the stand), a door frame that had the tell tale marks on the wall of being pushed back several times, a filthy and slightly cracked black plastic connector on the shower tray (and had been cracked for a long time) and some carpets that hadn't been cleaned in many a month. That, in itself, is bad. At the very least it is opportunistic. However, it got worse. While up there, I saw a lady going from room to room with a camera. I followed her in to one room to see that she had pulled the cracked plastic shower connector in half, then taken a picture. She also pulled the door frame further away from the wall to take a picture. I confronted the front of house chap about this and showed him what had happened and accepted that his staff had acted in an unprofessional manner. I said to him that I felt that it was closer to criminal.
Now, I know people have a negative misconception of teenagers from the media but this is grossly unfair. Our students are, like the vast majority, lovely, respectful people. They were brilliantly behaved and were really rattled to be accused of this damage. I felt I had to write this review as I had to make schools aware that this was what the hotel were about. We actually stayed there two years ago when they tried a similar trick with a rickety bed that had been glued back together. I feel very stupid that I hadn't seen it coming again. Who knows how many schools have been conned in this way? If you are staying, make sure that you take photos of the room and point out obvious damage. Although, i would really recommend that you find a different hotel. I certainly won't be returning any time soon.
