However, it now calls itself Mitart Hotel but I would say it is a pension if I am being kind. So I think it should go back to that name, otherwise it is misleading at best and deceiving at worse.
Under exactly this kind of wrong impression plus the 'well selected' photos angles on the website (interestingly our room isn't featured on the website and I wonder how many of such rooms are not), we thought we were staying at a charming hotel for 3 nights.. Also at 125euros a night for a double (already discounted rates, can you imagine?) it helps give such impression too. However it is anything but.
We were highly disappointed, our room which is mainly lit with florescent lights is not given much thought in finishing and decoration. There are unsightly wire cables hanging percariously around the beds. The beds which have no frame nor bed head, slide around alot which makes sleeping at night tricky (there are 2 of us). The furniture mainly of untreated pine was put there more as a convenience than style. There are some odd pieces, like the sofa in our room, is just a monstrosity and combined with another monstrosity - a clothes hanger/cupboard, the room looks like a depot for unwanted furniture.
Moreover, just outside of our room the corridor is stacked with piles of rubbish, treated more like a storeroom/corner, it is totally unsightly! The so called art rotation exhibition in our room again looks sad, dated or just plainly miserable. The bathroom is functional, florescent light again and complete lack of flair: shouts pension, not hotel. The towels are small, rough, mangy and had seen better days. The whole place looks like it has been done up on the cheap. Ok given that sometimes under people with great taste it can be charming but not in this case.
In fact we were so depressed of such horribleness that we had to nick one of the better lamps in the pile in the hallway to add some mood lightening in the room. Yes imagine, DIY 'hotel' improvement whilst on holiday.
Also the so called organic breakfast is overrated and marred by a lack of service... there is only one middle age woman on shift, presumably, the owner. I think a pension with such high rates should be able to afford more help. I won't pay more than 80eurs in this place, so it has space and is clean (apart from the rough, sad looking towels).
I won't recommend it, Flower's boarding house mitte and Motel one Alexanderplatz down the road are much better: better rates, in a great area and you will get what you pay for. No unpleasant surprises like here.
