Big, clean, secure, fun, friendly and good location.
Spent 3 nights at the Circus Hotel last week.
While there is nothing fancy about the hotel, it is clean with a friendly and helpful staff. The location was perfect. Great neighborhood with tons of restaurants and shops.
Stayed here for 3 night last weekend in a group of 6 adults. Was very impressed with the attitude of hotel staff, cleanliness of accommodation and choice of health organic food. I particularly liked their approach to eco sustainability. The property is well serviced by U Bann and Metro track outside the door. Food and booze prices were reasonable. Great restaurants and bars nearby and only a short walk to city centre. Get the buffet breakfast at least once, cost is €8 for residents and full of wholesome goodness to suit all tastes.
Overall the hotel is good. However, I did feel it was more like an improved hostel than a hotel (a bit more expensive than a hostel, of course). The reasons are:
* There are no toiletries in the bathroom and although there is a little message in the bathroom saying that this is available from reception I think this should be informed during the check-in.
* The towels are quite small and not the best quality.
* The staff is friendly and the environment is informal and lay back. (which is not necessarily a bad thing but it does feel like a hostel).
* There was no coffee in the room. To be honest, if I want a coffee I will make myself a coffee and wouldn't like to have to call reception to order one.. even though it might be a fresh one. Definitely didn't get that one.
* Could have at least two little bottles of water in the room or glasses or a jar available. This was not the case.
* I had a junior suite which was not what I expected. The bathroom was quite small and there was no bath.
Something to improve:
* I informed during the reservation that I was staying in the room with my partner and we had a twin bad, which I found really bad; however, as I had already unpacked when I realised it was a twin bad I didn't ask to change to a different room. And to make it worse we had two separate single duvets (this was awful) and I did ask reception for a double size duvet but never got it! The little details are the ones who really make a difference.
* It was a very cold weekend and although the breakfast was very good (porridge was awesome) I did miss having the option of eggs and bacon. They did have boiled eggs but its not the same as scrambled eggs!
Something that was definitely the highlight of the place was the live music on Friday night and the food in the restaurant. The group was just awesome and the food and cocktails were amazing as well.
Location was also good and our room faced the courtyard, which was definitely not the best view but fairly quiet.
I dont think I would to stay there again but would probably stop by for few cocktails and listen to the live band.
I can understand why some people might like as it is quite pleasant it but I would not consider it as a number 1 hotel.
We stayed for 5 nights just after new years (our original booking was 3 nights, but we were enjoying the city and liked the hotel so extended our stay)
The hotel's location was great for us - right on top of the subway station, walking distance to the city centre (about 20 mins) and also to some cool more local neighbourhoods.
The care that the owners have taken, in decorating the hotel and the services provided, is clear. There are many nice touches throughout, and our room was comfortable. We chose the slightly larger room - looking at some of the others there's probably not much in it, so if you're cost conscious at all then a standard room would be a good option. The staff were all very helpful at all times, and genuinely friendly.
We don't normally eat in the hotel, preferring to explore a new place, but were so tired when we arrived that we headed downstairs for a late bite before bed. the food was among the best we had in Berlin. The oat rolled schnitzels with baked apple especially were a nice modern twist on a german classic.
Only negative - and really this is the only thing - is that the hotel makes it a bit challenging to have coffee in your room. They don't provide instant coffee due to concerns about quality, and have plunger coffee available for free at reception - which is great. But it's a bit of a palavar to organise every day.
Overall a great hotel and top recommendation for any stay in Berlin
