“Great value for the money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2011

I've been a Hilton diamond member for many years and travel extensively. Glocke Weingut is a typical European hotel with a comfortable atmosphere. Staff is extremely helpful and the hotel has underground parking around the corner. The hotel is located on a main street close to the main square town hall. This is our second stay there and it was as enjoyable as the first time. A good value for the money.

“Central, ok, expensive internet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

We had booked with Uhl, but they sent us here (a practice I don't like). Our room overlooked roofs and backyards in the old town. It had a balcony, but it was too cold to use it (besides, we normally don't spend much time in the room when we travel). The style was "bavarian", ie. dark wood, brownish tapestry and furniture.

We didn't try the restaurant, but it seemed to be quite popular, with many guests. The included breakfast was good, with newly baked bread and many types of spread, ham, cheese etc. but only one hot item: Boiled eggs.

What always annoys me, however, is places where you have to pay for internet. Glocke used a commercial operator who took 12 euros for a day. It's a total rip-off. Nowadays, everybody have to use internet to find out where attractions are, when they are open etc. Internet should be included in the room price, the same way that clean linen and hot water is.

So when I refrain from recommending Glocke, it is because of the internet. We should totally boicott places that don't provide free internet in all rooms!

The shower was clean and nice, but the showerhead was loose. We showered at the same time as everybody else in the morning, and it is not surprising that the pressure was a little low.

The people we met were nice enough and the whole business seemed well run and professional.

“Splendid hotel in a wonderful walled town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

The Hotel Glocke was the best hotel we visited in an 8 day tour of Germany. The staff are all brilliant and the rooms large and very clean. Standards are high throughout and the family all speak good english. Right next door is a shop run by the family where you can also buy their own wine, while the hotel is right in the middle of a magical medieval town. We shall probably return for the Christmas Market. The hotel has its own small garage where you pay for your space. I would recommend this hotel and Rothenburg itself to anyone - it is a must see place .

“OK, but it appears you can do better in Rothenburg”

We arrived here around 6PM on a Sunday with plans to stay for one night. First of all, we had trouble finding anyone to check us in. The hotel is a bit of a maze having suffered various remodels over the years. Once we did find our way (we used a side entrance because the front was locked), we were able to check in. The hallway was decorated in a lovely pattern that reminded me of a nursing home. The room itself had been updated recently but unfortunately it was a bad move. In the words of my wife when we walked in, "This place looks like a Holiday Inn." Normally this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but with the non-stop charm of Rothenburg you want to become immersed in it not delivered out of it with a hotel room like this.

This hotel does offer garage parking in a small space behind the place for an extra 5 Euros per night. And to the plus side of things, the staff was ultra-accomodating. We were late to rise and they called us to be sure we wanted breakfast. They offered to help us take our bags to the room which was somewhat unprecented as well.

The walled town of Rothenburg is not to be missed. It's a great little place. The location of this hotel can't be beat. Just a few blocks down from the Marketplatz and located right on the main street running through town.

We loved the Glocke! Our room was huge, with 2 twin beds (with down comforters), a full size futon, a twin futon, cafe table, 2 chairs, gigantic bath with 2 sinks, full tub and a TOWEL WARMER! Staff was very gracious and accomodating. Breakfast was hearty, fillling and delicious. We ate dinners in the restaurant & were very pleased. Would definitely go back!
