Modern style & very oddly decorated hotel on the edge of the old town. Nice people (some a bit scatty). Easy parking. Lovely breakfast buffet. Big clean rooms with view of castle. Handy for looking around Fussen & of course Neuschwanstein.

My family stayed here last March. Kind of chilly, but sunny weather, and a fun beautiful town of Fussen to walk around in. This was my wife and daughter's first time to Germany, and they loved it here. We visited both castles, loved them, and enjoyed the food in town. The chocolate softball size pastries, don't know what they are called, but they are delicious, look for the shop. Also, there is gelato in town, a pleasant surprise for someone that usually goes to Italy when I go on vacation. The room at Hotel Sonne was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it had everything you would need for a family of 4. The bathroom was a great highlight, a separate bathtub and a separate shower, and everything you would need from a bathroom, but rare to see a bathroom like this anywhere in Europe. Sebastian at the front desk was awesome, always there to help. The free laundry in the basement was nice, but wow, no top level German technology here, it was over 2 hours to do a load of laundry, but then again it was free. The buffet breakfast they have is awesome, and I think this really helps keep this hotel ranked #1 in Fussen. For lunch and dinner, don't be afraid to walk around town and explore. We took one day and drove to the Concentration Camp in Dachau, uhhm, it was less than a 2 hour drive, not so bad. Our first visit to a Camp, and it is very hard and very sad to see what happened here, but I think everyone should visit a Camp in Europe, it is part of history, and a strong learning lesson. For the 2 castles, everyone should go to both, you can buy a ticket that takes you to both. I was surprised how busy it was in March, I can't imagine how busy they would be during the summer. Clearly the Neuschwanstein Castle (Disneyland Castle) is absolutely beautiful, and a must see for anyone going to Germany. Lastly, we drove to Fussen from the Zurich Airport, beautiful and easy drive, but you really need navigation in the car, makes things alot easier.

The hotel is lovely; however, the room for four people was too crowd!!! The room was not meant to have 4 grow-ups to stay. The third bed was a sofa bed and totally not ok for two grow-ups to sleep on it. The heater was not warm enough. In general, besides the size of the room, it was a good experience to stay. The room was clean and the service was OK...and they provided free WiFi. The breakfasts were great. We stayed two nights over there and the breakfasts were great, a rich varieties of choices.

I would stay there again if I have chance but with one or two people in a room only.

This hotel was the real standout during our trip along the romantic road. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms we had were fabulous, modern, stylish, clean and interesting themes. The only drawback was the food in the resturant was not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. The Saunas were fabulous (3 types), the position couldn't be much better in Fusen, all in all a real winner.
