I booked last minute a room for my sister, my friend and I because we wanted to visit the castle. The staff are super helpful and friendly, breakfast looks like was made by grandma even though there were a lot of things. Love it! Room is modest but very clean and cozy.

Very friendly and helpful staff, got a room upgrade for 5 Euro. It's a good idea to book your tickets for Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein through them, no waiting in lineups to get your tickets. Excellent restaurant in the hotel, and good recommendations from the front desk staff for restaurants and bars around town. The breakfast provided was fantastic!

As with all our accommodation for our Europe trip, we booked Altstadthotel Zum Hechten on the internet/email. We had booked a family suite based on the refurbished modern room displayed on the hotel website. We were very disappointed upon opening the door to our room to feel that we had entered a time warp to 1970's Fussen . While in need of refurbishment, the suite did have a newer bathroom and was clean and very spacious.

We arrived in Fussen by train and the location is perfect being located on the edge of the Altstadt and an easy 10 minute walk from the train station.

The hotel has been in the same family for 80 years and all staff were very friendly & helpful and the buffet breakfast was exceptional. The hotel has a reasonably priced & very nice restaurant downstairs which we ate at both nights of our stay. Our fight with European soft pillows continues.

Wonderful family owned hotel at a great location in Fussen. Within a few walkable blocks from the train and a short bus or cab ride from Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstien castles. This hotel has been family owned for three generations and it shows. Every detail has been thought through. The breakfast spread is an elegant feast. We loved the breakfast dining rooms with their beautiful murals, silver servers and local knick-knacks. The 9-pin bowling alley downstairs was a blast. Grab a Ludwig beer from the bar and head down to your own free private lane. Our room was perfectly appointed in tasteful, contemporary decor and the large bathroom was a treat. But what we loved most about the hotel was the employees. It’s hard to really call them that because those we met are part of the two families that own the hotel. You will meet Margaret (since she seems to work there 24-7), an adorable bundle of energy who kept the breakfast a smooth-running operation. Decades ago she married into one of the families who own the hotel and she jokes (we think) that her husband said he married her because he knew she would make an excellent hotel worker. And young nephew Flornia, always so positive and upbeat, stayed past his quitting time to make sure we knew how to operate our bowling lane. Just a fantastic hotel that provides outstanding value.
