When we asked for a low floor we didn't expect to be put in the basement! We arrived late at night having informed the hotel. They didn't seem to know of our existence but eventuallly acknowleded we had booked. We were shown the room down some steepish stairs. There were three beds in it. The carpet was not only stained but had been badly fitted in two jagged pieces, the furniture was grey, and the en suite facilities consisted of a stained toilet, a basin outside it and a separate shower room. There was a long shelf on the wall of the room, two chairs one which needed repair and a table.
You could see they had tried to do something. The tv. was new as was the actual shower which unfortunately fell off the wall soaking the floor! The basin was also new. Frankly, I think it would have been impossible to make this room nice however anybody tried.
We asked to change the room and were shown an equally depressing room with no en suite facilities, so we stayed where we were. The room was clean as was the bedding.
As far as I could see there were no instructions for possible fire escape. We did discover a lift in an adjoining area where the cleaning materials were scattered around.
I felt like Mary Queen of Scots when she was in prison awaiting execution!!
I suppose it was partly our fault as we had not specified en suite taking it for granted and the room was very cheap, but never again.
