Nice hotel near centre of lovely old city of Augsburg. Large twin room with sofa and nice bathroom. Friendly, helpful staff who spoke English

Unless you are arriving on the train and need a close location, this hotel is not worth the search. The staff is not terribly helpful, and the highly touted "parking" is basically non-existent. The location is noisy and in an unattractive part of the city. The one redeeming feature - the restaurant serves excellent food. So, eat here - but don't sleep here!

I stayed for a week in Augsburg in mid-September just as Oktoberfest was beginning. (Yes, Oktoberfest begins in September!) Although it was a business trip, we had quite a lot of time to tour this part of Bavaria. Augsburg is a lovely and safe city. The hotel is across from the Hauptsbahnhoff (train station) and yet is quiet and convenient. (The train station has a great German restaurant adjacent that serves the most amazing bowls of "wedding" soup--noodles, sausage, etc.-- that I could not stay away from.) This particular hotel is more of a boutique hotel, with very personal and attentive service. They speak excellent English unless you prefer to speak German to them. A bowl of fresh, fall apples kept me returning daily to the front desk. My room was an end room overlooking a parking lot and was tiny by American standards, but pristine in terms of cleanliness. The bathroom had been completely renovated, and again, postage-stamp in size, but serviceable. Most of my colleagues were staying at the Ibis down the road and did nothing but complain relentlessly about their rooms. I had the opportunity to see one, and truly, it was nearly impossible to move in it.The Internet worked flawlessly. The room comes with a television, and whether it is a German thing to have a free, 24x7 porno station available, it was disconcerting to imagine this availability if one brought one's children to the hotel. Breakfasts each morning were the typical, vast German buffet of many types of breads and pastries; hot dishes of eggs and potatoes; an array of wurst (sausages); many sorts of juices and fruits--in brief, lush, tasty, and filling. I did not eat in the restaurant for dinner, but it was always packed. If you are accustomed to 5* accommodations (see some of my other reviews over the years), you will be unhappy, but if you want clean, comfortable, and consistent, you will love Hotel Riegele.
