My wife and I came to Regensburg to see an example of an older German city that hadn't been destroyed by Allied bombing during the second world war. Since most of the old city center is a pedestrian area and since we had a car, we opted to stay at an nice, relatively inexpensive hotel, which happened to be in a business park on the northeast side of the city, a short distance away from the city center.
We found the Best Western Atrium to be as we expected--a clean, semi-modern place with free parking, Internet, and breakfast. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful--particularly with our strategy to visit the old town area.
Since we had gotten to the city later in the afternoon, we had only the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the city. There are a number of public parking areas near or adjacent to all the major attractions--which are mainly the historical buildings in the town. After a couple of false starts, we got the hang of the city traffic flow and the location of parking areas and got to every location we wanted to see that afternoon.
