Nice hotel in center of town. A really neat downtown - lots of walking malls etc - explore a bit. We got in very late and the staff were very helpful to get us to our room. They were also helpful in the morning with directions and allowing us a late checkout - their English was very good. The windows opened but really the road noise was minimal - did not keep us from a good nights sleep. Rooms were very nice, spacious and it seems recently decorated - same with the bathroom. Breakfast was good and again helpful staff. Would easily recommend anyone to stay here.

As in common with many other reviews, i found this to be a really nice hotel, clean, smart, nice large rooms, comfortable beds, rooms nicely furnished, and very friendly staff who spoke great english. Also right in the centre of the old town. So far so good.
But there is no A/c, so you need the window open. The cobbled roads and narrow streets look great during the day, but amplify the noise by night. The drunks going home kept me awake on and off until around 3 am, then the service vehicles from 4 till 5, then the construction traffic round the corner at 6 and 7.
I would consider going back, but would have to take earplugs !!

We recently stayed here for a night to begin a cycling trip from Passau to Vienna, Austria. Initially we were pleased with the Weisser Hase's old town location. However, that was the only good thing about the hotel.

The interior was stark and utilitarian. I can deal with that however not the absence of A/C in our room (it was the beginning of Sept. and still in the 80's). The only way to get fresh air was to sleep with our windows open which faced the busy street and also meant listening to loud revellers from the hotel's bar as well as the bar directly across the street. Due to Austria's new smoking rules which forbid smoking inside, smokers now congregate at the front of the establishment, and then proceed to smoke+drink+shout as was the case at the Weisser Hase. That went on til 4 am, and then at 7 am (no lie) Passau's public works dept. decided to jackhammer up the pedestrian zone. On a Sunday morning, no less! It was a huge relief to check out of the Weisser Hase.

We will absolutely not be returning to this hotel.

My husband and I booked this hotel which was suggested by the organizational committee of the KM Conference 2011 taking place in Passau. We did not investigate much and just booked, for the rate of 99 euro/night with breakfast.
Well the hotel was in the end pretty nice, right in the amazing historical center of Passau. Pretty old building as everything else inside actually: tired lobby, tired rooms with no special issue though, average (but not exceptional) sleeping quality.
Nice points were the free internet access (with the code given by the front desk), a brand new LCD television in our room (which we did not use, but it was nice to see though) and the nice rabbit decor everywhere ("Hase" is the German word for "Rabbit"). Breakfast buffet was more than ok for my needs (I only had a tea and a couple of chocolate muffins), but our colleagues having scramble eggs and sausages were not that satisfied.
Parking is for a (reasonable) fee inside the hotel's garage but beware because lots are tiny so you must drive carefully!
So in the end yes, I had no special issues so I would probably go back, though my experience was not memorable.
