The 3-star, 60 room Achat hotel is located on a major road leading from the Autobahn into the city, about a mile from the center. Free parking is on-site or for a fee in the underground garage. English speaking check-in staffer in a regional dirndl dress accommodated our request for a quiet room facing the back rather than the busy street out front, and also was very helpful with info about the city center and local bus transportation( bus stop for #1 and #2 bus to Old-town in front). Though 15 years old, the hotel was recently completely refurbished and is super modern and spotless throughout. A lift, sauna, whirlpool spa, room service, LAN/Wifi for a fee, free PC terminal in lobby ( out of order ), bar, and a restaurant are among the hotel facilities.
Our carpeted room was amply sized as was the tiled modern bathroom with a tub/shower combo, hair dryer, well lit and super clean. Adjoining twin beds with quality bedding and a comfortable mattress, coupled with the rear facing room location made for a good night sleep in total quietness. Room appointments included a good size desk, flat screen TV with cable channel line-up incl.CNN, two chairs, and good lighting to work on the desk or read in bed. Missing were a fridge, safe, alarm clock/radio, and A/C although an electric fan was in the wardrobe closet and the windows open. Central heating provides warmth in the colder season.
The in-house restaurant menu offered a good selection of courses, however, only one other couple dining attested to the fact that pricing is somewhat higher than found in restaurants in Old-town Passau. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of butterflied trout. The breakfast spread, served from 6:30 am offered all one needed to get going.
All in all, the Achat Hotel offers a comfortable room in a location that is easy on the driver, and that is easy on the wallet.
