We stayed in the Loganplatz Suite over the Christmas holidays. The room was huge and located in the rear of the hotel so it was nice and quiet. Only a few minor quibbles about the room. If you like a dark room at night, then this is not for you. The hotel has spotlights illuminating the rear and there are no black out curtains on the many windows. Just some orange privacy shades. The room was spotless and spacious. I would not recommend this room for families, just couples. Reason : if you use the tub, it is "in the bedroom" at the far end with no wall, door or curtain. You can take a bath and have a chat with someone sitting on the bed. No big deal if you are a couple, but add a third person to the mix and it could get interesting. The walk-in shower is super, one of the best I ever saw in Europe. Once you get out of the shower, you are right next to the tub area. The only place of privacy in the room is the tiny toilet room. The couches in the room are rather uncomfortable. Still a nice room though and I would stay there again. The breakfast is wonderful. Hot food such as eggs, pancakes, cereals, cold cuts, assorted juices (including cherry !!!???), yogurt, rolls, bread, bacon, gingerbread. The staff was super friendly. The nice woman at the front desk was always smiling and laughing. They treat you well there. If you go in the summer time, there is an Irish Pub in the basement of the building. I understand that it could get a bit noisy, however in the cold winter, it was not an issue, as everyone stayed inside to keep warm. Location wise, it's just inside the old wall of the town. You can walk there from the train station in 5 minutes. You would take the underground walkway (filled with shops) and emerge right at the hotel. If you are going to the Christmas markets, it's about a 15 minute walk down the main pedestrian street. Very easy. The hotel is just far away enough from the market madness. On Christmas eve, not many restaurants are open. A good choice is Eiscafe Roma, located right on the river. Great Italian food that rivals (and surpasses) meals we had in Rome. Provenza is another good restaurant. For a fun German food experience, try Barfusser, located in the basement of an old building. Great food, great beer, lively atmosphere. Also try Bratwurst Roeslein, located at the rear of the Market. Great atmosphere and great food. Meals averaged around 33 Euros for two, and that included beer or wine. Very affordable. If you Catholic and are going to Mass, there is only 1 Roman Catholic Church, The Church of our Lady (FrauenKirche). That is located right on the market, it is the church you see in most postcards. The Christmas Market closes at 2 PM sharp on the 24th. By 2:30, everyone has closed up shop for the season and gone home. On Christmas day, the whole town is a Ghost Town, but a few restaurants are open on Christmas day. The train station is a mini-mall with shops and a few take-away food places. Use Nuremberg to take day trips. Bamberg is a must. Only 40 minutes by train. Walk to the part of town near the water. You will thank us later.
