I stayed here with my partner for 6 nights over Christmas break.
Location: Fantastic and convenient. As others have mentioned, it's right opposite the Hauptbahnhof - 15-20 minutes direct route from the main airport on the U-bahn. Several trams, U-bahns and S-bahns stop directly in front of the hotel if you're planning to go further from the city centre, but if you're there for a few days and just want to stroll into the city centre - the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to Lorenzkirche area, which leads you into the Old Town.
Rooms: We had a deluxe dream room with a King sized bed on the 5th floor. Take note: It was very cosy - not much room to walk around as the bed took up the entire space. The room has one closet, no dressers, one small bar fridge and a desk with one chair, so it took a bit of smart unpacking on our part. Granted, if it's just a night or two, it would be okay but as we were there almost a week, it took a bit to get used to. Even with the tight space, the bed was heavenly and the area was absolutely quiet (no view from our side of the building) so very peaceful indeed! The bathroom was nice, with full bathtub and great shower, strong water pressure and heat. The rooms were cleaned meticulously each day, and even if you left the room later in the day, the cleaning staff always found a way to clean the room - so that was very nice.
Ambiance: Whilst it was an elegant hotel, the atmosphere a bit dull - definitely not for a young couple (like us), but because it was Christmas, everything was dressed up and it took a while for us to notice that the other people staying at the hotel were primarily older couples, families, etc. The bar downstairs was the same clientele - definitely not a choice for an exciting night out if that's what you're after!
Food: Since all the shops closed on Christmas Eve (afternoon and evening), Christmas Day (all day) and Boxing Day (all day), let's just say we had our share of room service meals. Considering it was Le Meridien and what seemed to be a business hotel, the food prices were very reasonable - Ciabatta sandwiches started at 7 or 8 euros, and other meals hovered around that price with the most expensive dish being the Argentinan grilled steak at about 17 or 18 euros. Everything we ordered was very tasty - the steak was actually a favorite, as well as the shrimp salad - and each meal came with ample bread rolls, butter, etc. We also had a meal in the restaurant for Christmas Day, but that was a buffet, and it was okay - bit overpriced and a lot of the food went a little dry, but the unlimited wine made the meal worth it.
Customer Service: The girls who worked there were super friendly, and gave lots of advice and took the time to help you out, even if there was a queue. They gave recommendations based on honesty, from night life to which attractions were worth going to, etc. Some of the men who worked there were a bit useless for information, but my tip would be just to ask one of the girls - they seem to be more in the loop about what's going on around them.
All in all, it was a wonderful place to stay in such a lovely city, and it made our Christmas absolutely memorable!
