“Orient express Hotel in Nuremburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

When you like European art-deco in it's original glamour, this is the best hotel in the Nuremberg area.......the staff is really wonderful and friendly.......there's never a NO in there answer and service is in the highest standard of the Hotellerie.

Recently WIFI in all rooms and renovated in 2009 in a very elegant style.

The rooms might not be the biggest but it has all the ameneties and services to make your stay wonderful, rooms are very clean!
The kitchen is very good and the breakfast-buffet aswel.

This Hotel and especially the restaurant/breakfast room gives me a high Murder-on -the-Orient, Agatha Cristy feeling and you expect to be in the middle of one of the scenes out of the wonderful movie from 1974 from Sindney Lumet with celebrities like Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Albert Finney.......

It is recommendable to be dressed properly as this is a hot-spot for the rich and famous of this beautiful city, especially the Sunday Brunch!

Just a highly recommendable Hotel!
If any questions......evds@rocketmail.com as I am a regular guest of this hotel.

Dear TopLuxuryaddict
Wow, what a great review, thank you very much for that. The biggest praise you can give to a hotelier is when the staff is getting praised, I will pass your comments on to them and I will put your comments up on the staff notice board, I am sure that you made our associates very proud.
I also love the description about Agatha Cristy feeling and our Brunch. I hope you will soon return and once again thank you very much.

“Right in the center. Parking 17, internet 19, sleeping quality so so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed here 2 nights for business, visiting Euroguss Messe. Was referred to this SPG brand after Sheraton having no room available. Booking per TF was quick and efficient. Location of hotel is excellent in center, accross the central train station and near to Old city-center. Room (102) was spacious with sitting-corner, big flatscreen TV and split king size bed. The bed and sleeping quality was really poor, compared to similar brand and priced hotels. Bathroom was long and spacious; showerhead was blocked for adjusting the water-intensity.....need repair. fast Internet was at a charge of Euro 19/day. Parking in accross street public parking garage for Euro 17/night. The breakfast is wide assorted good quality. All in all am doubting to rate this hotel between average and good. The poor sleaping quality decided me to go for average. Pricing incl. parking fee and internetfee is too much asked for the overal pereformance.

Dear globetravelerNL
As you may know, the Grand Hotel Nürnberg belongs to the Starwood family with 9 different Brands in Total. Sleeping comfort is the most important subject within our company and we get a lot of praise for the quality of mattresses the company offers. In Westin the bed is called Heavenly sleeper and Le Meridien also developed its own bed which is highly rated. I am sorry that we were not able to meet your taste. The Grand Hotel was built in 1896 and those days there were only horse carriages on the roads and own parking was no issue. We are happy that we were able to make a deal with a parking garage close by and we only charge what we get charged ourselves. Your comments about the internet is a point we think about and I hope that we are able to offer free internet in the near future. Once again, thank you for your review and I hope we are able to welcome you back once you are in town.
Yours sincerely

“OK but expected better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The Meridien has a certain ring to it but on this occassion it didn't quite live up to expectations. The location is great, right next to the Central Station and one of the main entry gates into the old city. The hotel is fine, really, but the room we were allocated was extremely small and pokey. All the ammenities were in order and the decor was fine but there was hardly room to move around the bed or anywhere to put a suitcase. And this was supposed to be a SPG room, for their, supposedly, most valued customers. The room size was disappointing. The staff were fine, even though the bar, where one was to order coffees as well, was a complete disaster with the staff overwhelmed and the mess unbelievable. Staff were still nice though and polite but I don't think a bar in that state would be tolerated in many places. Other services through the hotel were fine although rather non-descript and what one would expect from a hotel chain like this.

Dear castorLondon
Thank you for your comments. It is nice to hear that you liked the location of the hotel and the in general well trained and polite staff. The hotel was built in 1896 and there is not a lot we can do with the actual room size. A 100 years ago, hotels were built in such a way. Sorry that we disappointed you. I have spoken to my Bar Manager to make sure that always well trained people work together with less skilled staff, until they have the skills themselves. Once you are back in town, we would love to welcome you back.
Yours sincerely

“Perfect location, Great Food & Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I stayed here with my partner for 6 nights over Christmas break.

Location: Fantastic and convenient. As others have mentioned, it's right opposite the Hauptbahnhof - 15-20 minutes direct route from the main airport on the U-bahn. Several trams, U-bahns and S-bahns stop directly in front of the hotel if you're planning to go further from the city centre, but if you're there for a few days and just want to stroll into the city centre - the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to Lorenzkirche area, which leads you into the Old Town.

Rooms: We had a deluxe dream room with a King sized bed on the 5th floor. Take note: It was very cosy - not much room to walk around as the bed took up the entire space. The room has one closet, no dressers, one small bar fridge and a desk with one chair, so it took a bit of smart unpacking on our part. Granted, if it's just a night or two, it would be okay but as we were there almost a week, it took a bit to get used to. Even with the tight space, the bed was heavenly and the area was absolutely quiet (no view from our side of the building) so very peaceful indeed! The bathroom was nice, with full bathtub and great shower, strong water pressure and heat. The rooms were cleaned meticulously each day, and even if you left the room later in the day, the cleaning staff always found a way to clean the room - so that was very nice.

Ambiance: Whilst it was an elegant hotel, the atmosphere a bit dull - definitely not for a young couple (like us), but because it was Christmas, everything was dressed up and it took a while for us to notice that the other people staying at the hotel were primarily older couples, families, etc. The bar downstairs was the same clientele - definitely not a choice for an exciting night out if that's what you're after!

Food: Since all the shops closed on Christmas Eve (afternoon and evening), Christmas Day (all day) and Boxing Day (all day), let's just say we had our share of room service meals. Considering it was Le Meridien and what seemed to be a business hotel, the food prices were very reasonable - Ciabatta sandwiches started at 7 or 8 euros, and other meals hovered around that price with the most expensive dish being the Argentinan grilled steak at about 17 or 18 euros. Everything we ordered was very tasty - the steak was actually a favorite, as well as the shrimp salad - and each meal came with ample bread rolls, butter, etc. We also had a meal in the restaurant for Christmas Day, but that was a buffet, and it was okay - bit overpriced and a lot of the food went a little dry, but the unlimited wine made the meal worth it.

Customer Service: The girls who worked there were super friendly, and gave lots of advice and took the time to help you out, even if there was a queue. They gave recommendations based on honesty, from night life to which attractions were worth going to, etc. Some of the men who worked there were a bit useless for information, but my tip would be just to ask one of the girls - they seem to be more in the loop about what's going on around them.

All in all, it was a wonderful place to stay in such a lovely city, and it made our Christmas absolutely memorable!

“Well located, perfectly nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This is a fine hotel located directly across from the central train station and right at the edge of the Altstadt. Front desk staff were knowledgeable and cheerful, and the check-in/check-out processes went smoothly. The rooms themselves were a little smaller than I expected - and the bed wasn't as comfortable as a hotel at this price point could be expected to be - but everything was working and in good order. There was some street noise despite being on the 3rd floor. As for breakfast it was good and filling (though the egg chef could be a bit less heavy-handed with the oil in the omelettes!).

Dear Robsmodern
Thank you for your positive review. It is nice to hear that you describe the hotel as a fine hotel with a great location and knowledgeable and cheerful employees. My apologies for the noise, which obviously came from the street. I have spoken to my Executive Head chef to make his chefs more sensible when frying eggs and using less oil, thank you for your hint. My team and I look forward welcoming you back, once you are in town.
