“Good budget hotel in central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This was my first stay at a GHOTEL and I was pleasantly surprised. My company booked the room, as it was part of a business stay in Munich. As I stayed there from Wednesday to Monday, I was able to get a good feeling of the hotel and its services.

First of all, I really liked the location. By taking the underground train to "Sendlinger Tor" or the tram to "Karlsplatz (Stachus)", it took only a few minutes to be in the city center. If the weather had been warmer, I would have probably taken a walk, but opted of the public transportation in this case.

The staff at the reception was friendly at all times. The check-in went quickly and was well prepared. As I forgot my mobile phone charger, they were able to provide me with one to use during my stay. I thought that it was a nice touch, that they always had a bowl of apples next to the reception, which gave me my daily dose of vitamins.

I also liked the fact that they had a small area next to the front desk where you could use a computer and were able to log-in to the free Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi in the rooms was available as well, but not free of charge). I should say that despite of liking the fact that they had this area, I didn't make use of it. From walking by, it also seemed that they had a kind of coffee station for self service in this area.

They also had a shoe polishing mashine which worked fine and the shoe polish was always full (usually it is empty all the time at a lot of other places I visited). Having quite some snow outside, I used it each day before and after work.

The room was spacious and clean, it even offered a kitchnette (nicely hidden by sliding doors) along with a fridge and a freezer. The bathroom was also spacious and clean, the water pressure of the shower was just right and the water temperature was stable once you found the right one (I have experience places, where the water only dripped out and the temperature changed from boiling hot to freezing cold in a split second). One thing I would change though is the fact, that there was no plastic bag inside the trash bin in the bathroom, which I found not too hygienic, when thinking of all the things people could dispose of inside.

The room was equipped with a flat screen TV and offered (besides from all the regular German TV channels) some channels from the usual pay-tv service sky (three movie and two sport channels).

As I left for work early each morning, I did not experience the breakfast buffet.

At a rate of 66,- € per night (excl. breakfast) I really like this hotel and might choose it again, when coming back to Munich.

Dear Guest,
thank you very much for rating your stay at the GHOTEL hotel & living München-Zentrum! We are happy that you liked it.
Unfortunately we do not know why you did not have a plastic bag in the trash bin in the bathroom. Usually, there should be one and we will take your comment as a basis to make sure that it does not happen again.
We would be delighted if you chose to stay at one of our hotels again!

Kind regards,
the team from GHOTEL hotel & living

“Clean but bit ran down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Overall the hotel is clean, the room was spacious, but really cold. Even with the heating turned the highest I felt a bit chilly. Also the windows felt like being open, very noisy from outside and having a breeze all the time, sometimes I was wondering if I am still outside.
The bathroom definitely needs renovation, the whole towel rack fell off from the wall and overall it is a bit outdated.
Staff was friendly, but slow, I guess the full process of checking-in and out needs update, seemed a bit too much "click" on the computer. :-)
Breakfast was ok, big variety of breads, meat, cheese, nutella, scrambled eggs etc you name it. I did miss a bit more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Free wifi in the lobby (where it is cold and tiny) and also bit slow connection so prefered not to use it and I was a bit upset as it was my birthday and received 200 messages and could not reply to them. :-(
People were also smoking in the staircase area and as we were staying on 1st floor, it was easier to use the stairs but was extremely smokey sometimes, it should not be allowed from my point of view.
Location is great, the underground is 1 minute walk, so easy acess to anywhere in Munich.

Room Tip: Try to stay on a higher floor as on 1st floor you hear everything from the street.

“Great location to discover Munich, yet affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We have recently stayed in Munich for a long weekend. Our choice was the Ghotel at Baaderstrasse, located in the 'Glockenbach' neigbourhood, known for its great variety and individuality of little shops, restaurants etc., not high street stores. The 10-15 minute walk to the Viktualienmarkt / Marienplatz (the center of the city), makes it a perfect location to discover the city. Given its proximity to the Isar (the river flowing through Munich), you can equally enjoy a stroll at the river / pay some of the museums a visit located nearby.
The hotel is a 3* standard, so do not expect luxury. Our room was very clean and functional with a modern TV. Our room also had a kitchen, which is due to the fact that this hotel also provides longer term accomodation. Staff at the reception was extremely friendly and efficient. They went out of their way to organise / bring things we asked for. Interesting to note that you need to pay your stay up-front though. We did not try the breakfeast buffet so can not comment on it. Overall, a perfect location for a Munich city get-away at good rates.

“Quiet and walking distance to attractions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

For the most part the hotel is in a quiet location, yet within walking distance of restaurants and the Marienplatz and the Hofbrauhaus. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. The staff is friendly and speak English. They also have a very good breakfast buffet which is included in the room cost.

“Spacious, great location for a three star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We stayed for six nights in mid October. The rate was 100 euros per night.

First off, we were very happy with our stay. We had low expectations considering that it was rated as a three star hotel. What we ended up with was a room with plenty of space, a "closet area" to store our things, a decent sized bathroom, room on the sides of our beds and a "living area" by the kitchenette. The furnishings were new, tasteful and modern.

The hotel staff were young and enthusiastic. Some of them even had a light sense of humor, crashing one of my misconceptions about Germans.

Cons: yes, the internet was crappy and not free (6 euros for one day, 29 for 5 days). There was a fly in the room. I can't really blame Ghotel about the bugs because there are no screens on the windows. This is a plus, not a minus. It's nice to be able to open your windows wide open and stick your head out. Another con was poor ventilation, especially in the bathroom area. You'll want to warn your partner if you've had a particularly odorous number two. The glass shower leaks.

By far the best thing about this hotel is its proximity to the Viktualienmarket and Marienplatz. It's a short 15 minute walk to a large market filled with various vendors. Viktualienmarket is a great place to buy some great sausages, jellies, fruits, mustards, etc. to bring back to your hotel for snacks or even a meal. Just remember to pick up a sponge and some dish soap at Tegelman's in between. And, of course, Marienplatz is great for a large number of reasons you can google.
