I stayed at this property back in May 2010 and had a very poor experience. I had no reservation but walked in a asked about rates for the evening for four guests. Either a quad room or two doubles. They quoted a rate for two rooms stating that the quad room would be more expensive. The rate quoted for the two rooms was in the 100- 200 euro range. The rate for a quad room was near 500 euro. The next morning at checkout I was presented with a bill that was more than double what was quoted. When questioned about the increase in the rate they said it was the quoted rate. The most confusing part was the total that they had given me was much higher than the rate they had quoted for the quad room. It finaly turned into a back and forth conversation about what I would be willing to pay and pretty much ruined my night in Munich. The ladies working the desk were rude and unhelpful and to be honest were very disrespectful to my whole party.

Full disclosure: The owner of this hotel is a personal friend. I will try to stick with facts rather than opinions. You can interprete my ratings based on the preceding disclosure.
The Asam is a small boutique hotel in the center of Old Munich. Walk to restaurants and historic sites and leave your car [if you have one] in their garage. Our room looked out on the courtyard; had a modern bath and plenty of room. I do wish breakfast was included in the room rate.

We called weeks in advance to book a "Doppelzimmer" with twin beds, we became a confirmation for our booking ("Standard Doppelzimmer"), but our room had a "Franzosisches Bett", 140x200; the owner told us they had "real" Doppelzimmer but those were for other guests"expecting a double room". Unfortunately we were second-class guests, even if we expected a double room too, and the only thing they did for us was trying to find a room in another hotel (but they didn't succed, the hotels they called were sold out). No reduction on the bill, not a word to say "sorry": even if the hotel is cozy and the location good, we will never be there a second time!

This was my second stay at this hotel, having stayed a week terhe last year. The rooms are big and comfortable. The family-owned business has excellent service. This year we really tested them with a variety of requests and they excelled! eg: even though their laundry was broken, they still managed to assist us in getting laundry done etc.
I cannot possibly imagine a better hotel expereince than this. It is discreet, the service friendly and comfortable and clean for the weary traveller. If only there were more hotels like this everywhere.
