“A few hits and a few misses, but we'd stay again”

Spent 2 nights here during Oktoberfest. We were given a room on 5th floor in the attic. The lift only goes up to level 4 so if you are disabled/mobility impaired/have really heavy baggage, pre-book a lift accessible room. And the stairs are quite creaky; you feel like you are going to go through them at any moment! Room quite small, just enough room to put 2 suitcases on floor, roof slanted and we were surprised to find we’d been given 2 single beds instead of a double as per our original booking. We did however see into one or two other rooms and discovered that not all the rooms are as small as ours was. Took train from Munchen HBF to Odeonstrasse (2 stops) and then a 5-10 minute walk, but the University underground stop is also close and a shorter walk so once you get the hang of the efficient German metro system, the location isn't too much of an issue. Best included breakfast we have had so far into week 3 of our trip (a variety of good quality cold meats and cheese, boiled eggs and toast, variety of fruits, pastries/breads, cereals juices, coffees and (herbal!) teas (very rare in European hotels as we've discovered)). Polite staff. Cleanest sheets I've seen in a hotel in a long time. Tight security after 9pm, you need to enter a code into the door on the street. Your stay is determined by other patrons; we were on a floor with loud Americans who would come back to their room late at night and carry on a conversation in the hallway - no fault of the hotel's though, except perhaps for having thin walls!

“Boutique Hotel is a hidden gem”

My wife and I traveled down the "Romantic Street" through Germany and liked this little hotel so much, that we decided to stay for 10 days.

Yes, the old hotel Stefanie closed, but was purchased by 3 very nice ladies and reopened as "Das Hotel"

The rooms were completely renovated and each one is different from the others.

The owners were accommodating and the service was excellent.

The roughly EUR 110 per night included breakfast (but not parking like we found out at the end of our stay). This was an exceptional deal! Downtown Munich - Frauenkirche, Hofbrauhaus, the University, etc. were all within a short bicycle ride away. Very doable and lots of fun! I recommend the bicycle rental or the walk versus taking a car if you intend on visiting any attraction in the vicinity.

Across the street is a Schlecker's (small supermarket) so you can purchase some sundries and have a picnic in the English Garden - highly recommended!

Cafe Puck is an eclectic little pub right next door. Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's been there for ever and the food was excellent!

MUC Cafe (named after the airport identifier) is also a very short distance away on the Leopoldstrasse right by the Siegestor. Amazing food and great for a stroll and watching or participating in the nightlife.

Tuerkenstrasse (the street the hotel is on) also has a rich history and the hotel has a big book in their library that can tell you more about it.

The only downside (as with most hotels in older buildings in Europe) is the lack of air conditioning. Opening the beautiful (new) windows is only a partial compromise as the nightlife and cruising cars are a vivid reminder that you are in the middle of the city. This made sleeping a bit challenging.

I would strongly recommend this as a Gasthaus-style hotel at a very reasonable price for downtown Munich.

“Closed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

I just received an e-mail that the hotel is closing on 31 March 2009. They didn't advise me that my reservation was cancelled, but responded with an automatic post to my request for a confirmation of reservation.

“Clean and Basic”

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Stefanie in June 2006, during the World Cup. The room was spartan but clean, with a private bath and televsion. The breakfasts were included and were very good, with a selection of good food in a nice atmosphere. Good basic lodgings.
