“Good but could be better!”

I stayed at the Das hotel for a couple of days in December. The Hotel entrance is at the side of the street and the lobby is on the first floor. I found it to be a bit of a problem since i was carrying 2 big peices of luggage. There is a lift on the ground floor that takes you the lobby but it's quite small and once igot my 2 peices of luggage inside there was no space for anyone else to fit in. The check in was smooth and i was in my room in 5 mins. Now coming to the room, its quite small its like narrow corridor. There was no cupboard to put my stuff but instead there was mid sized chest. With two luggae peices on the floori literally was hopping over it if i had to go to the other side of the room. The shower and the bath are detached. The walls are paperthin and you can actually hear the flush in the other room. But you kinda get used to it after some time. The shower was decent with hot water. No english channels on their cable. Their buffet breakfast is very good with a huge spread. In terms of staff friendliness it was top notch. The staff were more than ready to help and are quite patient when it comes to answering your queries or doubts.Room service was also quick when i asked for extra towels. Everyone speaks English so no worries there :-)
The location is bang on. Its on university street and its filled with a lot of pubs and restaurants. Lots of students around. The metro is just 7 mins walk from the Hotel and marienplatz is just two stations away. Overall in terms of location its perfect.
So woulld i recommend it? I think they are maybe over priced by 10 - 15 euros. It would VFM then. Also considering the size of the room if i was with my partner then it would get really cramped. But in terms of customer service, location and the breakfast buffet i think they are right there on the top.

Overall i would give it a 6.5/10

“Cozy, affordable and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Das Hotel in München (old name Hotel Stefanie) is a cozy and affordable hotel. It is located close to the the university areas North of the city center. Marienplatz is about 15 min by foot. Of all hotels in this area I have been in, Das Hotel has on of the best price-quality ratios. The economy rooms are very small, but there is everything you need. The rooms are clean and renovated. The street side of the hotel may be noisy in the evenings because of bars nearby. There was no noise if the window is closed, but since there is no air conditioning, you may need to keep the window open.
The breakfast is much better than in most German hotels of the same price range. There is a real coffee machine, where you can drink as much Cappuccino, Espresso or Macchiato as you like.
There is a free wifi connection. TV does not have any international channels.
The lobby area is cozy and the staff is very friendly.

Room Tip: Choose the court yard side.

“Nice hotel, good situation, go for the higher price room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Staff very nice and helpful, breakfast very good, centrally situated on a very pleasant street, which is full of cafes and nice shops. Close to the Art Galleries, which are superb. Tram and subway services first class.
We weren't too keen on the basic room, which has a tiny shower room, with a cheap folding plastic door.
We saw the next standard room up, which is very good indeed for the money (120 Euros), considering the good situation of the hotel.
The toilets are a bit noisy, I admit.
We will return!

Room Tip: Go for the DZ "Individual" rooms - I think individual means better quality, in this contex...

Stayed for a weekend. To be honest the first impression wasn't too good, but in the end turned out to be ok. It's in a good location with lots of bars and restaurants. The room was huge and the bfast was amazing. I must complain about the noisy pipelines. You basically wake up whenever the person next door goes to flush the toilet.

“Nice neighborhood, some nice rooms & great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Located near the Pinakothek museums in a nice neighborhood, about a 15-20 min walk to old town center. We had 2 rooms--the double room was very nice, spacious. The single room was tiny, on top floor, hot in summer. Staff was helpful and the included breakfast was great, lots of choices. Overall, very good and reasonable rates.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room if possible.
