I stayed here for two nights recently and while I do understand some of the previous negative reviews, I enjoyed the hotel and would not only recommend but would stay here again myself if in Munich. The issue most previous negative reviewers had seems to be the style and character of the hotel, calling it out-dated and run-down. It's true the place does seem a bit past its glory days, and the style is squarely a bit old-fashioned, but nonetheless I thought it was very comfortable and a pretty good bargain considering the location and the amenities (in particular, breakfast and wifi included).

We had a superior room which is the lowest class of room, but it was fine. It did have the dreaded twin-beds pushed together but we found it perfectly comfortable. One problem we did have was the pillows - they were horribly thin and ragged. We asked for a couple extra pillows and they arrived within minutes. The hotel is one which has a "pillow menu", so you can choose from among several varieties of pillows, but unfortunately we didn't notice the pillow menu card among the literature until we were packing up to leave.

The breakfast buffet wasn't impressive in my opinion, but you can also order a la carte from the menu - eggs any style, a few types of sausages, etc., and the a la carte menu is also included in the free breakfast deal.

The real value for me is the location - it's right on a main square in Munich (Karlsplatz), which is a short 5 minute walk down a pedestrian zone to the main town square (Marienplatz). It's also immediately adjacent to a major transit hub (underground), which has two trains (S8 and S1) running to/from the airport for 10 EUR each way. The convenience factor there was much appreciated.

Overally I would definitely stay again, and would recommend to others.

What a lovely hotel - really well appointed - and a special pillow service for those with allergies - topped off a great stay in Munich

“Extremely disappointed not a 5 star hotel. Website is nothing like actual hotel”

My husband and I recently stayed in this hotel, September 2011. We were on a European tour and did not realize we would be in Munich for Octoberfest. We assumed Octoberfest was held in October! As a result hotel was EXTREMELY expensive. That aside because of the cost I assumed it would e a top notch hotel like the ones we had stayed in throughout our European trip. We had been to the Ritz in Berlin, Hotel 41 in London, Hotel am Schlossgarten in Stuttgart, Park Hyatt in Hamburg. All 5 star with amazing facilities and service. Hotel Konigshof was shabby. The entrance to the front door is lined with dark blue curtains trimmed in white and they were BLACK with dirt. Not a good start. Reception is lovely, light and airy and expensive looking. Service at reception was excellent and I have no complaints there. We were led to our room by a lovely young porter who was very attentive and helpful.

Out room was tiny. It looked directly out onto a grey concrete wall. Nice start. The bathroom was so tiny as well although it did have a deep bath. The toiletries were very basic. Not 5 star quality. The king bed was 2 king single beds pushed together. The sheets on the bed were clean and crisp but they had darned the sheets where holes had appeared!!!!

We did not eat in the hotel as it was so expensive. As we were so disappointed with our room we thought the restaurant would probably be the same. Expensive and lacking. The bar downstairs was excellent with great service but again the interior of the bar is shabby.

Upon our departure we completed a survey and gave to reception. The survey informed this hotel about our disappointment of the hotel. We have not had a single call or email or confirmation they have received our survey.

We paid over 400 euros PER NIGHT for this hotel in the height of Octoberfest. We will never return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. I don't think there are any good rooms.

“Good but not great”

Hotel looks very simple and boring outside, but interiors are nice. Lobby area is lovely and I think it is the only part that has been renovated recently. Rooms are fine, althouhg not my style, but definitely need an urgent renovation. Carpets, furniture, bedding, all extremely old. TV is ancient. Bathrooms are great with huge bathtubs. Then again toiletteries are not good enough for a 5 star property. Breakfast was awesome. I have mixed feelings about the staff. Some were great, then again some, especially during check in and check out were not at at all helpful. Location is good, just a short walking distance drom Marienplatz. Overall we were happy with the hotel but cant really say that this hotel deserves to be a leading hotels of the world member.

“We loved it and would like to go back soon”

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. My family and I were given a lot of attentions and were kindly treated during our stay. The facilities are very good, you can use a computer in the lobby for free, including the printer; the wellness area is also good, a quiet place to relax in the whirlpool after a shopping day, for example. The location is excellent. All in all, it's worth the price.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms overlooking the Palace of Justice are very nice
