I stayed here for two nights recently and while I do understand some of the previous negative reviews, I enjoyed the hotel and would not only recommend but would stay here again myself if in Munich. The issue most previous negative reviewers had seems to be the style and character of the hotel, calling it out-dated and run-down. It's true the place does seem a bit past its glory days, and the style is squarely a bit old-fashioned, but nonetheless I thought it was very comfortable and a pretty good bargain considering the location and the amenities (in particular, breakfast and wifi included).
We had a superior room which is the lowest class of room, but it was fine. It did have the dreaded twin-beds pushed together but we found it perfectly comfortable. One problem we did have was the pillows - they were horribly thin and ragged. We asked for a couple extra pillows and they arrived within minutes. The hotel is one which has a "pillow menu", so you can choose from among several varieties of pillows, but unfortunately we didn't notice the pillow menu card among the literature until we were packing up to leave.
The breakfast buffet wasn't impressive in my opinion, but you can also order a la carte from the menu - eggs any style, a few types of sausages, etc., and the a la carte menu is also included in the free breakfast deal.
The real value for me is the location - it's right on a main square in Munich (Karlsplatz), which is a short 5 minute walk down a pedestrian zone to the main town square (Marienplatz). It's also immediately adjacent to a major transit hub (underground), which has two trains (S8 and S1) running to/from the airport for 10 EUR each way. The convenience factor there was much appreciated.
Overally I would definitely stay again, and would recommend to others.
