We had a wonderful stay at the Palace Hotel in Munich from Dec. 28, 2011 to Jan.04, 2012. The hotel is small, very quiet (a must for my husband and me!), in a beautiful neighbourhood, and the service is very good. Breakfast is expensive (25 euros per person), but it is worthwhile, given its quality. We had a deluxe room: beautiful, large, extremely comfortable, and with a lot of windows opening to the garden. The bathroom was not large, but it was very clear (it also had a window, which is not very usual in hotels) and had a good shower. Bus and tram stops are half a block away from the hotel and, given Munich's excellent transportation system, it takes no time going everywhere: concerts, museums and the old center. The Nymphemburg Castle is only half an hour by tram! Across the street there is an excellent gourmet shop, Käfer, also with a café/restaurant. Munich is a wonderful city, specially if you are interested in art, music, restaurants, and... shopping.
We only had two minor inconveniences at the hotel: a) our safe stop working. We informed the front desk but nobody could fix the problem (it was New Year's eve); we waited another day and had to complain again to have the problem solved; b) we asked the attendant at the front desk to see whether there were tickets available for two concerts. She never returned our demand. I think she simply forgot it. We decided then to go directly to the Tourist Office on Marienplatz and fortunately we managed to attend a wonderful concert at the Cuvilliés Theater, a 17th.-century rococo jewel.
Anyway, we can certainly recommend the Palace Hotel for an excellent stay in a lovely city.
