Stayed for two night during our road trip through europe last summer. Never been to Munich before but we were positively surprised. The hotel was great and easy to get to, offering in house parking. The hotel was very clean and felt rather newly decorated. The bathroom was tip top and spotless clean. The location was very close to the Theresienwiese (probably excellent if your are going to the october fest) but a bit far of from the old town. But conveniently located when arriving by car. And last but not least, we voted the breakfast as one of the best during our entire three week road trip! In all, top notch if the location was a bit more convenient for strolling. shopping, wining and dining. But considering the german food and generous portions, it was probably good we had twenty minutes to walk it off every nigh...

We really loved this place. It's close to the city center, only one subway stop from the main train station but on a quiet side street. The lobby, bar and dining areas were beautiful and they have a nice patio area for breakfast when the weather is warm. The staff was friendly and helpful and all spoke English well. They have a computer near the bar that is free to use to check e-mail, internet etc. The room was very nice, a little small, but well furnished and very clean. Try to get a room in the back, they all have small balconies that were nice to relax on. Usually rooms in the back come with a view of a vacant lot or a dark courtyard but this had a view of the back yards of several other buildings and had plenty of sun. Think of the movie "Rear Window", without the murder. The continental breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel and was included with the room price. This would be a great place to stay for Oktoberfest; it's less than a five minute walk away from the hotel. The only downside to this hotel was that there was usually only one person to man the desk and the bar at the same time and at times the staff member was a bit overworked with several guests trying to get her attention. But on the whole, this place was great and I will definitely stay here again when I come back to Munich.

I wanted to write a really snotty review about the Hotel Bavaria. They put myself and my husband, and our friends in smoking rooms (to be fair, we hadn't stated we wanted non-smoking rooms, but we hadn't encountered such a problem in Europe in years). When we asked to move, they were extremely unhelpful and less than friendly. We had to wait until the following day and a change of staff before we were able to move, but not before one of my friends actually had an asthma attack because of the smoke.

So not an auspicious start. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay, and the hotel, couldn't really be faulted. The non-smoking room was fine if basic, it was clean, quiet, and the breakfast was good. The location is fine, near to a couple of metro stops, and to a few decent restaurants and shops. It also wasn't too expensive.

So I probably would stay here again, but would be very careful about stating my preference for a non-smoking room beforehand. My advice to the hotel though would be to get rid of the smoking rooms altogether; they really do seem like a throwback to a former - less healthy - age.

Wonderful breakfast with outdoor garden. Clean and well appointed rooms. Fantastic staff. Only negative was no air conditioning during warm weather; a bit noisy with the windows open.
