The owners of the Herzog own four hotels. I was actually trying to reserve, last minute, at another one of their hotels on-line and only the Herzog was available. So its nice that their system gives you options. I think the Herzog was a great find! It is just steps away from the Goetheplatz metro stop, one stop from Merienplatz. I arrived on an early plane, showed up at 9:00am, and was shown straight to my room! I was really pleased. For 62 Euros I had a really decent sized room with two twin beds, a comfy sofa and little table, a fridge, a color TV, a work desk/chair, great windows with lots of light, a balcony overlooking green space, a large closet, and a full bathroom with a tub!!! Plus, the included breakfast was the best I had at three different Bavarian hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful. Yes, the rooms are dated and a little tired. The lamps were a little dim for my eyes. Some may question the location factor, but I'm a walker and I walked to both the Central Train station and Merienplatz and back several times from here. This is NOT a hostel! [Come on!] This is a full service, if slightly dated, budget hotel at a very competitive price in an expensive city. I'll be going back to Munich in June and I'll look no further.
