Location is wonderful for visiting Munich. Only 10 minute walk to Marienplatz, Rathaus, Hofbrauhas, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was small, but adequate and the staff was accommodating (I asked for scrambled eggs and ham, and they gladly whipped some up for me). The rooms are not luxurious, but they are clean and perfectly acceptable if you're not super-picky. Rooms are not soundproof, so it's easy to hear people walking around in the hallway in the morning. However, for the location and the price I paid, I felt this was well worth it.

The great thing about this Hotel is that is very near to the city center , walking distance 5 minutes from Maximilian str and the old town . Also in front of the Hotel there is a tram station (tram 17) and a metro station (lines S4 and S5) , so you can go wherever you want in Munich . Also the Hotel is very clean and the stuff is very helpful. Although the room that we had was a bit small , but very cozy.

When there is no large trade show in town or demand is low, a room can be had for a very reasonable price. I found the value to be excellent. It is perhaps not Hotel Splendid, but it is Hotel Charming.

About seven years ago, the Hotel Splendid moved 200 meters north into the turn of the century Dollmann townhouse in the residential neighborhood of Lehel. The Lehel U-bahn stop is about 50 meters from the hotel, and the trams 17 and 19 also travel to the Hauptbahnhof, the Altstadt and most of the sights. It is 1/2 km to the Englischer Garten and 0.6 km to the Residenz, so its location is also very convenient when travelling by foot. The linear park that lines the rushing Isar River is 2 blocks away.

The rooms vary by size and decor. A few doubles are really quite small. Our double (308) had two chairs, a small desk and a large cabinet, so it was a comfortable size. We also saw larger rooms on our floor. Our bathroom was small but bright and sparkling with white tile, granite and glass. Our room was decorated with French-style fabrics, sconces and furniture. Although the window was narrow, there were many lights in the room to keep it bright. There are no room safes or air conditioning (not a problem most of the year).

The common areas like the library/lounge, halls and breakfast room have plenty of handsome original art, and attractive rugs and fittings. There is a small lift, albeit slow, and a pretty garden patio to enjoy when the weather cooperates. There is a laptop in the library for internet. Breakfast is 12.50 euros and includes the usual German suspects - eggs cooked to order, breads, yoghurt, fruit, good meats and cheeses.

This is not a full service, five star hotel. An employee staffs the desk 24 hours a day and can serve a drink at the bar, but unless you ask for help, you'll probably carry your own bag. We found the hotel to be intimate, homey and cozy. We will be back.

N.B. The number 17 tram rolls past the front of the hotel. I adjusted soon enough even though I am fussy about noise. Rooms facing the rear appeared mostly smaller than rooms facing the front. At least on the third floor.

Was there for a one night stopover before flying to NYC from Munich. Pros: very friendly staf in small, intimate hotel. Front desk cedes to a grand library/drawing room lined with books , puntuated by music, and a small bar. Hotel is well-located and very reasonbly priced. Rom was clean, but small and dark.
