We arrived in Munich by train and was happy to find out that our hotel was about a 5 minute walk from the train station and the metro, and a 10 minute walk to Marienplatz. That was the end of the good news for this hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, the lady at the front desk was trying to take pictures of a cat. (either a guests or her friends, I'm not sure) We stood there with our luggage for over 5 minutes waiting for her to finish before finally attending to us. She did not seem to pleased we interrupted her, but quickly got us checked in.
The room was small, Normally a two bed with a third bed added, but enough space to walk around. It is not air conditioned so was very hot in the mornings and throughout the day. There was a window you can open which led to the balcony but no screen on the window, and it was very easy to access other balconies from your own. If you left it open, I'm pretty sure someone could come in without a problem.
There was a huge cabinet in the room with a lock that we figured that we could keep our valuables in, (ie passports). We finally managed to lock the cabinet after sometime but soon found that you can open it again very easily by pulling at the door from the top. It was pretty useless.
The bathrooms were a little dirty, more stains than things they could have cleaned up. I do not recall there being anything in the bathrooms other than 3 towels. (no soap or shampoo)
The site advertised that it had free wireless internet, but we couldn't get a signal in the room. We tried asking reception but when we got there she was on the phone on what sounded like a personal phone call. We later found out from other guests that the only place you can get a signal at the hotel was sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Turns out the internet is actually from the restaurant next door who they are affiliated with. If you want to use internet while you are here, I would recommend walking 30 seconds down the street to an internet cafe where they charged 1 euro for 60 minutes.
The restaurant next door offered breakfast in the morning (included) which was ok. Boiled eggs, bread, meat, cheese, and cereal. The staff was really rude, one waitress yelled at us in German to remove our bags from our table. We do not understand German and didn't know what she was asking which got her even more furious. Finally someone got up and translated for us and we moved our bags to the lobby of the hotel.
When leaving the hotel, you have to leave your key at the front desk. When you get back, you tell them your room number and they give you the key. It is like that at other places around Europe as well, but when we did it here, the person just handed us the key without verifying who we were. (It was a diffrent person that we had never seen before). We could have said any room number and could have gotten a key for it.
The area around the hotel was a little sketchy at night. The hotel was surrounded by gentlemens clubs so a lot of prostitutes and strippers walking around and standing in doorways trying to get you to come in, but it really wasn't too much of a bother. Overall the location was great. It was very close to a tourist information centre (where a few tours start from), the train station (which has a bank that was the best place to exchange travellers cheques), the metro (buses, subways, trams, to access any line and travel pretty much anywhere in Munich)
Other than the location being great, I would not recommend this hotel to anybody based on staff alone. There are other hotels on the same street that looked a lot nicer to stay in but probably at a much higher price but I think the extra money could have been worth it. Munich is a nce city with lots to see, but if i ever go back, i will definitely not be returning to this hiotel.
