I've stayed at many Ibis hotels throughout Europe and they all seen the same; small rooms, small lobby and a bland design. This property really surprised me. Not only was the lobby and restaurant roomy, they had a "continental touch" to them.
My room was much larger than the standard "shoebox" room found in so many other Ibis hotels. The bathroom was spotless and you could turn around without hitting your shoulder on a wall or door. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet, even with the window open on a warm August night. My single room with a double bed cost 55 Euros.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with local directions. They must enjoy their jobs because everyone was always smiling. The buffet breakfast offered all the usual German items for 10 Euros including hot scrambled eggs. There was plenty of seating for the breakfast crowd. Parking may be complementary because the morning of our departure, I asked at the front desk about exiting the underground parking garage and she just gave me a token to raise the gate and wished me a pleasant day...nice touch!
The location was great, only a 2 minute walk to the U6 U-Bahn Nordfriedhof station for a 15 minute ride to the Marienplatz. Since there were three of us, the "partner" ticket costing 9.8 Euros was handy for all our transport needs the entire day.
Without a car I would normally stay at Pension Lindner next to the Marienplatz. Ibis Muenchen Nord is an excellent alternative when you have to have a car.
