We got a great price on this hotel through hotels.com and it exceeded our expectations. The location was absolutely perfect. It was an easy walk to Marienplatz, Karlsplatz, etc, and literally across the street from the train station. There was a subway entrance within feet of the hotel's front door. This was especially helpful when the temperatures dropped, as we were able to take the subway anywhere in Munich. You can also catch trams right outside the front door.
The lobby was fairly nice, with plenty of places to sit, and a cozy area with couches that was great for reading. A computer with free internet is available for guests on the lobby level. The elevator was large and modern, an important element in a European hotel. The front desk staff was excellent. We relied on them for restaurant reservation and recommendations, and were truly pleased with their suggestions. Also, they were very helpful in organizing day trips and providing recommendations as to transportation, as there are many many different types of tickets available.
The rooms were a bit basic, but the superior room had plenty of room and was adequately heated. It had a down comforter with a removable cover, which is important to me. At night the room was quite noisy because of people passing by on the streets and the noise from trains and trams. Even on the 4th floor we were surprised at the noise, so would recommend asking for a room facing away from the street. The TV only has 1 or 2 English channels.
The bathroom was spacious and had a full bath and shower (and bidet if that matters to you). It had a hair dryer, but the amenities were weak - just soap and a bath gel/shampoo combo. You'll need to bring conditioner or buy some at the drug store next door.
One real plus for this hotel is its lovely bar. The design is modern with dark woods and it features a beautiful fireplace. The drink menu is huge, and the service was great. There are plenty of beer halls around for pubbing, but it was nice to come back to this more sophisticated and convenient spot at night.
