“Loved it”

Just came back from Munich and stayed at the Admiral Hotel for two days and I wasn't dissapointed. The hotel was perfectly situated, just 1 km away from downtown old Munich and right in front of the Dutch Museum.
The S-Bahn that takes you to and from the airport is just 300 meters away and it is an easy ride to the airport ( about 30 minutes and cost 10 euro ).
The rooms were very clean and large and very well heated ( I was there in February where they had a record low ), which is not always the case in European capitals.
Brakefast was nice with freshly made juices and fruits, which is also rare to find in winter.
The owner Kevin is a charming gentleman and will do his best to make you feel just like home.
I will definitively be back on my next trip to Munich.

“Fairytale in the hurt of Munich”

I'm speechless. Really. It was a dream come true! And there is why:
Location - 10 points! 2 minutes walking distance to deutsche museum. 10 minutes walking distance to the old city and the Isartour station.
Design of interior is tasteful and cosy. Service - 5 stars! We stayed for 5 nights and saw some personal changes - everyone was pleasant and smiling, and willing to help!
The breakfast!!!!! Well, there's suppose to be a song about their breakfast!
Child friendly. Pets friendly.
And the garden... especially at night... secret place in candle light...
Honestly! I didn't want to leave!

“Home in Munich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I have stayed at the Admiral 25 or 30 times, in both single and double rooms, often as part of a group of business colleagues and social friends. The rooms are, of course, immaculate and extremely comfortable (although I do strongly prefer the more spacious beds in the double rooms), and service could not be better. The owners and service personnel will stop at nothing to accommodate requests and to ensure that one's stay is peaceful and enjoyable. I find it refreshing that the Admiral was ahead of the curve in establishing non-smoking floors, which at one time was extremely rare in Germany.

A previous poster made a comment to the effect that the breakfast buffet is "not the best in Europe." This wouldn't appear to be a controversial comment on the surface, but more than one of my colleagues have come to the opposite conclusion - in any event the breakfast always draws raves.

I have never encountered rudeness at the Admiral (which is somewhat unusual in German hotels), and the front desk staff are as good as any concierge, with none of the pretentiousness that one often experiences elsewhere.

The owners have done a wonderful job in transforming this hotel into a luxurious destination, and I am anxiously looking forward to my arrival there in six weeks.

Room Tip: The doubles are more than worth the nominal extra cost.

“Not sure why this is so highly rated...It's "OK"”

Overall, a nice stay, and there is nothing "wrong" with the Admiral. So take this review as more expectation-setting than any issue. Basically, the 4-star moniker might throw U.S. travelers off ... I'm a frequent traveling (200K miles last year, unfortunately). I'd rank this the ambience of a 2.5-star hotel in the U.S. The furnishings are dated and 70's, though clearly well-cared for (so it is very clean, and feels nice). Rooms are a good size. Only real concern, as noted by others, is the wi-fi is 70% up and medium speed, and the bed is quite stiff (which the application of an extra comforter did not completely alleviate). That said, where this exceeds 2.5-star is the service, and the breakfast. Both are fitting to the boutique style of hotel this is. Location is decent, though you'll do better for proximity to the Isartor stop at the hotel Isartor, or to Marienplatz at the Thorbreau (both of which looked nice).

Overall, again, a fine place, but one that feels a bit misguided at 4 stars. Reasonable value for the price, albeit for side sleepers a bit rough with the mattress. If you do stay in the area, be sure to check out Nero (Italian, around the corner - great pizza), Vits (the perfect coffee bar to park and work at) and Wirtshaus Zum Straubinger, a favorite for casual bavarian and beer without the touristy fuss over dirndl's you see closer to Marienplatz at the iconic houses like Hoffbrauhaus.

“My personal favorite”

I am a frequent Munich traveler and after trying a lot of different hotels, this is my final choice in terms of location, price and quality. The retro nautical atmosphere is a matter of taste, I like it. Very experienced staff, rooms are not cookie cutter, standardized. The big strong point is the garden terrace, breakfast, location and individual balcony (in some rooms)

Room Tip: ask for rooms to the back, with balcony
