My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel last year when we decided to attend the final weekend of Oktoberfest festivities. We only booked a few months ahead (that's short notice for the Oktoberfest) so we were pretty happy with what we got. Although the Econtel is located a fair distance from the city centre, it is quite close to an S-Bahn tram stop. Our room was comfortable enough. The hotel has a McDonalds attached to it and there's a reasonable Italian restaurant across the road, but apart from that there's not much else going on in the area.

I booked this hotel on Booking.com, the rate was non refundable at €239 per night, i booked 2 rooms total €478 to stay with a colleague.
Due to the ash cloud we were unable to fly, so we canceled the booking with the hotel straight away, as we couldn't cancel via Booking.com, I called the Econtel directly and told them that we could not fly to Germany. I explained this was due to the ash cloud and asked them specifically if they would charge us for the booking, I stressed that the rate was non refundable, hence my reason for double checking. The person on the phone said no you will not be charged as this was due to the ash cloud.
One week later, I receive via post an invoice from the Econtel for €478. To my surprise I contact the hotel and explain that when I called back 1 week ago I was told i would not be charged etc... I was pointed back to the terms and conditions and was told that the hotel will charge me and to contact my travel insurance to get the money back! 2 advices from this:
1 - always ask for a name when you get information from the sort on the phone,
2 - do not stay at this hotel, they are dishonnest to say the least!

After looking in vain for several hours on the internet for a hotel with a reasonably priced family room, we found this one. The price was right at 87 euro per night. The staff were friendly and helpful. We got the "Mickey" room. The beds were ok, the bathroom was clean with a real bath tub. The noise from the railroad tracks outside was minimal. The breakfast buffet was very good with lots of choices for most tastes. The kids also loved the McDonalds next door with indoor and outdoor play areas! We walked the 5 minutes to catch the S-8 train downtown. The reception staff even sold us an all day family pass for 9.40 euro. Overall, we found the location much more convenient than expected. It only took us 30 minutes to drive to the airport for our flight home. In the end, we left our fancy water bottles accidently. The helpful staff offered to mail them to us when we contacted them by phone later the same day. We would definitely stay here again.

We flew in/out of Munich and needed a room with 2 Double/Queen beds before travelling on. . We were tired and had asked ahead for early check-in but still had to wait for almost 2hrs. Thank God for the McDonald's next door. We had booked the deluxe family room, but the promised toys and movies for the kids were not there. they got to chose one little 20cent toy out of basket at the check-in. At 11 pm when my husband went to the bathroom we noticed water running down the wall. There was a water break somewhere and when he went to the lobby they did not really care but he insisted on another room, so we got a key to another one. We had to move 8 pieces of luggage, 2 car seat and 2 sleeping kids to a different story and into an inferior room all without so much as an offer of help. They do not have luggage carts either so it took us quite a while. The next morning when we checked out, no apology or offer of a refund or a rebate for the hassle, no complimentary breakfast. We are used to better service here in Canada and I was very not happy. The extra they charge for the deluxe family room was not justified. I sent a letter of complaint to the management but did not get any feedback. You do that here and you'll have management falling all over apologizing and receiving a complementary night etc. So next time I will not stay there. Keep in mind I am a native German speaker and can communicate our concerns properly, so there was no language barrier. I consider it a bad choice and would not stay there again
