We stayed the week of Christmas, and found the staff members to be very friendly. They let us know that most of the city closed down for the holiday, and that they’d be offering dinner on Christmas Eve in case we couldn’t find another restaurant. There were free cookies and apples in the lobby, along with some kind of beverage. The rooms were clean and average-sized, and yes, as others have mentioned, the location is a bit sketchy. Having said that, I felt completely safe walking to and from the train station at all hours. I would hardly call it a ‘red-light’ district; the reviewers making that claim have obviously never been to Amsterdam! There are a few questionable establishments in the area, but no drunks or perverts lurking around, and no semi-nude women standing in windows or doorways!
The train station is only a few blocks away, making it a very convenient base for travel in and around Munich. Breakfast at the hotel was expensive, so we opted for sandwiches at the train station, around 2.50 – 3.50 Euro.
They offer free internet access in the lobby. There was only one computer, but we never had to wait to use it. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. I had no trouble sleeping, but I always wear ear plugs so if there was any street noise, I didn’t hear it.
There is a 1 Euro store around the corner – go there to buy soft drinks. The Coke Light that costs 2.90 Euro at the train station is only 1 Euro there. It’s also a good place to pick up inexpensive souvenirs. I found some New Years souvenirs there (6 for one Euro) and saw the same items for 1 Euro each elsewhere around the city.
