“Wonderful breakfast - "interesting" neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

We stayed in Golden Tulip Olymp Hotel during our road trip in Germany. Location was ok for car traveller, and there was free parking place front of the hotel. Neighborhood was not that nice, suburb with passing by traffic but ok for one night visit.

We stayed at the "apartment"-side of the hotel. Outdoor hallway wasn't cosy but the rooms were spacious with separate bedroom and living room. Breakfast was the best that we had in Germany.

Bathroom was big and well furnished, living room looked a bit outdated but did the work. Overall excellent value for the money (59e/night incl. breakfast)!

I would definitely stay there again during future road trip, but would make sure that the room is not in the ground floor as the door of the room was only locked door. We stayed at the second floor and felt safer because there were locked door downstairs.

“Horrible hotel - Bad service, dirty, far from city”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2010

This is one of the worst hotels we've stayed in. Unfortunately, we experienced it during our honeymoon and the total cost was above $800 for two nights. This hotel was barely worth $100 per night. We were put up in the apartment building in back though we booked a hotel room. The apartment was no added value from what we could tell.

Upon arrival, a late trip on the train, the front desk man was rude and quick to get rid of us. He practically yelled at us when he couldn't understand our last name though I pronounced and spelled it. He eventually checked us in and indicated another man (bellhop presumably) would help us to our room. That man walked us through the small bar area, which was crowded with businessmen, and put us on the elevator where he pressed the floor button and told us to go find our room.

We walked through the hotel, to an outdoor catwalk, and into an old apartment building that was attached. The apartment was dated, dingy and dirty. Furniture was old and run down. The sofa had spots on it -- we had to put towels over it to sit on it. The carpet was run down. The newly remodeled bathroom was average -- except it had a sink and shower that didn't drain.

When we called to explain the broken sink, the front desk didn't know what "broken drain" meant and sent up a housekeeping person who spoke no English. The sink was repaired but still had draining issues after a repair person was sent while we were out.

We also noticed the exterior of the building had marks on it as did the interior hotel hallway walls.

During our three experiences with the front desk, they were rude, in a hurry to answer our questions and get rid of us, even without anyone else waiting. When we called down to the front desk to ask if breakfast was included, they said it wasn't as noted on a handwritten note given to us at check-in -- "breakfast excluded." There is a hotel buffet in the hotel.

We did get free wi-fi but it had a weak signal that often was inaccessible.

The hotel is far away from the city center. It has poor customer service and is a dirty hotel for people who are doing business in Munich and can be near the airport. The proximity to the airport is its only good location element. Walking to the nearest subway is several blocks through a diverse residential neighborhood.

My wife cried when she saw the poor quality of the apartment and after dealing with the super rude staff. The staff need major training on how to deal with customers.

We recommend not staying at this hotel and will never return to any Golden Tulip hotel in any country based on our poor experience at this location.

“Economical and comfy, but inconveniently far from train to Munich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

If you're looking for a clean, comfortable, and economical stay in a quiet residential neighborhood, Golden Tulip Hotel Olymp is the place. My family thought the restaurant was excellent. But if you'd rather get a quick bite at a convenience store or bakery, there are many shops within a short walking distance (they all seem to close very early however). The rooms were warm and comfy, even in the middle of winter. The units are spacious, with a separate bedroom, bath, hallway, and living area - great if you have family members who go to sleep at different times. There's also a wireless network for your computer.

But if you're looking to frequently hang out in Munich, the hotel's location might prove to be a burden. It's a 20-minute walk from the train station, 15 minutes if you walk briskly. It was extremely difficult for us because of all our luggage and young tired children! And, there were no taxis waiting for passengers at the time. We just grit our teeth and went for it. While on the journey to the hotel, no one we asked seemed to know where the hotel was. So we ended up walking more than we needed. Now, going from the hotel to the station was easy because we could easily hail a taxi. Yet when you get to the station, the wait for a train may take about 15 minutes.

The staff is efficient, but I think Americans like us are used to more friendliness and more "Here, let me help you with that," and "May I help you?" I'm not sure if this is a cultural thing, or a Golden Tulip thing. Not meaning to complain; it's just that we were a bit surprised.

Would we stay there again? I think if we were touring Munich and other surrounding sites, then yes. If we were touring only Munich, then no, because of the hotel's distance from the city.

“Bad experience”

I have not stayed in this hotel, but I have a very bad experience with it. We booked two hotel rooms more than three months in advance, through a hotel booking agency. When the rooms were booked I was told that they could not be cancelled without a fee. Well, that is normal. What I was not told was that this fee was 190,50 euro per room!!!! Unfortunately I had to cancel the rooms due to family reasons, and did so through the booking agency. That is when I was told about this horrible fee. I must add that the rooms were cancelled more than 2 months before arrival… I contacted the hotel to hear if this was the correct fee, and it was. The hotel claims they take this fee because of a fair that will take place on the date of my booking. Well I know nothing about this fair, and I was not told about this big fee when I booked the rooms. I find this extremely bad service of the hotel, and will never consider to stay there.

“Great Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2010

This hotel is not in Munich but a suburb. We took the train/subway which was short walk from the hotel. The hotel was perfectly fine. There was a bit of street noise mostly during rush hour times. There is a separate living area and a huge bathroom. It reminded me of a very small apartment really. There is a grocery store, beer gartens and deli's within walking distance. If you don't want to pay top dollar to stay in Munich, this should be your place! Well worth it.
