“Perfect Location - Some Rooms Nicer than Others”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

We booked the "King Ludwig's Summer Tour" with my parents and had rooms at the Lisl. LOVED IT!! From the private tour of Hohenschwangau Castle (Felix was great) to the elegant dinners (wow!), sumptuous breakfast buffet with omelet station, and the lovely 30 minute carriage ride through the valley. It may have cost a bit more than just getting our own dinners/room and visiting the castles, but it made for a wonderful experience. We felt quite pampered.
We had a room without castle views, but very nicely appointed and spacious with a gorgeous bathroom and clawfoot tub. My parents had a view of 1 castle, but the room was very small and the bed uncomfortable. Point being, be sure to specify your desires ahead of time and they will do their best.
Location was PRIME . . . walk out the door, and there they both are. Cross the street and head up the path to Hohenschwangau, or turn left to catch the bus to Neuschwanstein or head up the path (one on either side of the hotel). Also a very short walk to the beautiful lake with paddle boats and path around. Staying in Hohenschwangau (instead of Fussen) well worth the quiet evening to just enjoy the views (though no night life) after the crowds have left. The front desk will also get your tickets for Neuschwanstein without the fuss of having to stand in line and hope for a specific time. Very nice perc!

“Great vacation spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We had a room on the end of the hotel with views to both castles - it was fantastic!
The wait staff was more than accomodating when I asked them to make Bananas Foster they went out of their way to google it and make it just for us. The castles were worth the trip and so was the hotel. Good food just topped it all off for us!

“Great views of the castles!”

My husband and I booked the King Ludwig's Summer Tour two-night stay package at Hotel Lisl. It included an after hours private tour of Castle Hohenschwangau and we were picked up by our own horse carriage, taken down to the horse stables for schnapps, and then back to the hotel for a 4 course dinner. We also received a very delicious 5 course dinner the night of our arrival which included 2 free drinks. The package was expensive at 300 Euro per person but it was totally worth it. We got the best room in the hotel (#20) which is the top floor corner room with views of both Castle Neuschwanstein and Castle Hohenschwangau. The room had a nice bathroom and was spacious with a couch and extra chair. I glanced in some of the other rooms and they seemed smaller with not nearly as good views. Our room had the best view of any hotel we have ever stayed in. The food in the restaurant is fantastic.

“Gave this three overall only because...”

Gave this three overall only because breakfast wasn't included. If you arrive in Fussen by train you take a bus (easy and short ride) from the train station to the bus station at the foot of the castles. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the bus station. The room and bathroom (with stall shower) were an ok size, though the shower was a bit small. We had room 22 as I recall and we had a direct view of the parents (not fairytale) castle which was nice. Clean. Wifi was a real good price at 3EUR for the stay and could only be accessed in the lobby. Our room was $137USD for one night. Perfect location if you want to be at the base of the castles. It seemed that the only places to eat were in hotel restaurants, so if you want more options either go into Fussen or stay in Fussen and take the short bus ride from there to the castles. Our dinner in this hotel's restaurant was great, though not cheap. If you arrive before check in time, ask for the reservation/check in stub anyway because it gets you a discount on castle entrance fees. We were not given ours and didn't know this until we were able to actually check in. The discount is about one or two Euro, but still it would have been nice to have been told by hotel staff when we dropped our bags off for them to hold until check in.

“Amazing views. Great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

Sometimes a hotel says it has views and it is glimpses. Well this place really has views. Try to get rooms 22 or 23. The views were amazing. They had balconies. Looking straight at the old castle. From the restaurant, and probably some of the rooms, you can view Neuschwanstein, however, it is in the distance, the same as all the other hotels as it is 40 mins walk uphill from the town. But no other hotel would have had the same view of the old castle.

Breakfast cost extra at this hotel but it is the best breakfast I have had so far as they made an omlette to order. Wireless nternet cost a small fee extra but don't waste your time on the internet, enjoy the view. There is a lift and a spot out front to stop the car for a while while you unload. Parking is free in the main carpark a few minutes walk away.

The hotel is right near where you pick up the tickets and where you get the bus or the horse drawn carriage.

The hotel is also very close to the lake and you can go for a walk along the side of it.

The staff were really helpful with anything we asked.
