“A very pleasant stay and some lovely features, just let down a bit by the road noise.”
Stayed for 2 nights on our way driving from Munich to Austria and whilst the hotel is easy to find, it's position on a main road means it is quite noisy, even round the back of the hotel where our room was. Although it was the height of summer and with temperatures over 30C we had to sleep with the windows and balcony door open.
The room was a good size and so was the bathroom, with a good range of the usual features you would expect from this class of hotel, such as TV, DVD, Fridge, free wireless Internet, hair drier etc.
The pool was lovely because of the weather, although it would be crowded with more than 4 people trying to swim, but perfectly adequate for a cooling dip and the sun loungers were very comfortable. For those not driving, the hotel does have a bus stop just outside and it is free with a hotel tourist card that is given on arrival. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a large town and this hotel is some way from the centre(s), although there is a lovely path alongside the nearby river that takes you there with some wonderful views.
The breakfast is the crowning feature of the hotel with a fantastic selection of foods, to suit all tastes, from a buffet. They even have a fresh orange juice squeezing machine. The coffee machine is very good too, offering the full range of options from fresh beans. The cappuccino feature is a little eager but great if you like frothy milk on everything! Receptionist was helpful and spoke superb English. Overall a very nice stay let down by the road noise, but a pair of earplugs soon cured that.

Thanks for the nice review! Thats a very cool foto btw., thumbsup :-)
As for the street noise: you are right, if you leave the balcony doors open, you actually hear when a car drives by. There are not many cars there at night, but of course, it sometimes only takes one car, especially if you have a light sleep... I live just opposite to were your room was, and my personal "technique" is to close the windows during the day, so not to let the warmth into the room, then open the windows when I come home (around 8-9 p.m.). When I go to bed (around 10-11 p.m.), Garmisch has cooled down enough so that the room has a nice temperature. I then shut the windows, then I don't hear the street at all.
Of course, if you prefer to leave the doors open at night, even our soundproof windows don't help, but your "workaround" with the ear plugs sounds like a good plan too :-)
Thanks again for taking the time to give us such a detailed review, we hope to see you again some other time. Take care!
