“A great alternative to Edelweiss Lodge.”

This hotel was great, the rooms were big and very nice, and the restirant downstairs was convenient. The breakfast meal was big, not a typical German continental, but a full on course with eggs, bacon, pastries, etc. I gave the value a 3 rating because the room was more pricier than the Edelweiss E1-E5 reate, but it was on average with the other hotels in the area.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

I have stayed here a few times over the past couple of years. This hotel is my first choice when going to GAP. I have never had a bad meal here, never had a dirty room, never experienced any difficulty. When you walk in you will most likely see Andreas Greiss, he is about the nicest guy you will meet, the whole staff is great. Mr and Mrs Griess own the place. Mr Greiss is always busy making improvements doing the behind the scenes stuff, Mrs Greiss makes the place run like a clock. She is so friendly and kind, always a smile. The chef is awesome, makes great food. This is a family owned business and you can sense the pride. If you stay here you will never have a complaint. The employees have been here for years and know what they are doing. English is spoken here but they will help you with your German.....

“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Great hotel & great service. I had a problem with my baby and had to leave one day sooner and they did not charge me. I know with other hotels it would not work and they would charge our card. The rooms are very clean and cozy, restaurant good. I am planning to come in summer with my baby as they have a very nice yard and swimming pool. Thank you Monica / John for all your help.

“A very pleasant stay and some lovely features, just let down a bit by the road noise.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011 via mobile

Stayed for 2 nights on our way driving from Munich to Austria and whilst the hotel is easy to find, it's position on a main road means it is quite noisy, even round the back of the hotel where our room was. Although it was the height of summer and with temperatures over 30C we had to sleep with the windows and balcony door open.
The room was a good size and so was the bathroom, with a good range of the usual features you would expect from this class of hotel, such as TV, DVD, Fridge, free wireless Internet, hair drier etc.
The pool was lovely because of the weather, although it would be crowded with more than 4 people trying to swim, but perfectly adequate for a cooling dip and the sun loungers were very comfortable. For those not driving, the hotel does have a bus stop just outside and it is free with a hotel tourist card that is given on arrival. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a large town and this hotel is some way from the centre(s), although there is a lovely path alongside the nearby river that takes you there with some wonderful views.
The breakfast is the crowning feature of the hotel with a fantastic selection of foods, to suit all tastes, from a buffet. They even have a fresh orange juice squeezing machine. The coffee machine is very good too, offering the full range of options from fresh beans. The cappuccino feature is a little eager but great if you like frothy milk on everything! Receptionist was helpful and spoke superb English. Overall a very nice stay let down by the road noise, but a pair of earplugs soon cured that.

Thanks for the nice review! Thats a very cool foto btw., thumbsup :-)

As for the street noise: you are right, if you leave the balcony doors open, you actually hear when a car drives by. There are not many cars there at night, but of course, it sometimes only takes one car, especially if you have a light sleep... I live just opposite to were your room was, and my personal "technique" is to close the windows during the day, so not to let the warmth into the room, then open the windows when I come home (around 8-9 p.m.). When I go to bed (around 10-11 p.m.), Garmisch has cooled down enough so that the room has a nice temperature. I then shut the windows, then I don't hear the street at all.

Of course, if you prefer to leave the doors open at night, even our soundproof windows don't help, but your "workaround" with the ear plugs sounds like a good plan too :-)

Thanks again for taking the time to give us such a detailed review, we hope to see you again some other time. Take care!

“Very nice hotel with extremely friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I happenned to stay there for more than two weeks in May 2011. Me and my wife really enjoyed the hotel itself and the hospitality of the staff. The rooms are very clean and cozy. The food and service in the restaurant is very good. Besides, we enjoyed view of Zugspitze right from the room. Next time in Garmisch, I'm definitely going to stay there.
