I have eaten here many times of the years and this place never fails to provide something that we can always remember. We have seen some superb traditional thigh slapping dancing from 2 young boys, we have seen some great bavarian blausmisk and local singers and the meals to accopmany them are always top notch.
Visit on a Sunday lunchtime and you get to meet all the locals in their traditional Bavarian clothing (Dirndels and Leiderhosen) eating and drinking and church mass.
Garmisch is a very catholic area, conservative in their attitude but still very friendly, especially if you make the effort to speak to them in German. Most locals speak excellent (American) English and when they hear how bad my German is they make the extra effort and speak in English.
All the menus in this Gasthof are Multi lingual, they server some excellent Augustiner Brau beer and this is on place you just have to visit.
Oh, don't be mistaken this is in Partenkirchen not Garmisch. The two towns now share the town name Garmisch-Partenkirchen from being joined for the Winter Olympics but you will soon learn that they have their own little bit of independance too :)

We have stayed many times at the Fraundorfer and aside from somewhat small quarters, we find it a great place to stay. The staff is friendly (and hard working), the food is really good, and breakfast is great! The location is excellent for day trips to anywhere (we walked to the Ski-jumping stadium). The evening entertainment is just great fun!! One thing that I especially like is sitting with new folks (potential friends) all the time. We have made life-time friends from over 7 countries because of this.

We stayed at Gasthof Fraundorfer one night out of the four in Garmish. Previously we were staying in a very nice hospitable guesthouse. We decided to stay for one more night but that Guesthouse was full and we found one room available in the Guesthouse fraudhorfer.

Welcome: The reception is actually the counter serving food!!! Yuck!! Barbara did not even introduce herself and did not welcome us. She gave as a key without even explaining where our room was. Not at all accommodating.

Room: Did not expect much as it was booked last minute. Very small room and shower. Overall we did not mind about the room. What we did not like was the clutter surrounding the Guesthouse. It felt as sleeping in an old restaurant with cans, cigarettes etc....Very dirty...

Breakfast: Ok we seated at night with various people in different restaurants but breakfast as well? We were forced to seat with another family...Come on...
What we laughed about the most, is the milk that has its''own small'' fridge....Did not understand this as all the other dairy, cheeses, yogurts etc are not in a fridge...I suggest buy a proper professional fridge for breakfast...In addition with all the clutter around us it was disgusting to eat....We were not told that they were serving hot breakfast but we saw the waitress serving other tables

Overall I would not suggest to anyone to stay here...is overpriced and dirty. They are far better guesthouses in Garmish to stay...

A little disappointed with the Gasthof Freundorfer. We arrived as the first snowfall in town was arriving. A beautiful accumulation of close to 20”! My reservation of months before was not recorded on the guest list however rooms were available. We were in the back guesthouse, room 31. I do not think this was the Gasthof Barbara that is mentioned elsewhere. The hotel was clean and the buffet breakfast was wonderful. Nothing was missing from the breakfast table. The room (#31) was small and cramped. The bathroom was new and fine. The room was however cold and had to ask for a supplemental heater. Barbara is definitely “in charge”! She was working in the morning during breakfast and then pouring us beers in the evening. And, can answer all your questions.
