Finding the hotel with a GPS was easy and the location is good if you have a car. The reception area is welcoming but getting information from the staff was less inviting - we had to ask about everything and little was volunteered.
Our room was in the annex which is fine however, getting past all the builders materials left in the corridors was not a good start and a bit dangerous if you had children! The room was clean and adequate if that was all that was expected - we booked a 'Superior Room' and expected to have the comforts described on the web pages. There was no iron or ironing board, no coffee or tea making facilities, no bath robes or slippers no radio, no English tv channel (at least one was promised) and the inroom safe was out of use. When we asked for this to be rectified the receptionist was taken aback that we would even ask for so many 'extras'!
Tea and coffee never materialised, the safe remained out of use and we had to endure German TV and no radio throughout or stay. We were also asked to pay for the bathrobes but refused!
Breakfast was more than adequate with plenty of choice particularly continental style and the staff were polite and helpful but kept their distance. The only other meal we took in the hotel was on Christmas day and we opted for the set menu. Our booking seemed to have gone astray but was quickly sorted and we were given a table in a quiet second room - the ambience was perfect. The meal was good however, a lot of early preparation (mis-en-plas) had left its mark such as the carpaccio edges drying out and sticking to the plate but good value none the less. Although slow the service was very good and the waiter seemed very professional.
The bar never opened although drinks could be ordered and served in the reception area. The swimming pool and sauna were both clean and well serviced. Table football and pool were eventually provided near the (never open) bar area as was pay to use Internet service. Ski and boot storage was provided near the hotel entrance but the boot-dryer never worked; a bit disappointing putting on damp boots each morning.
Judging by the wear on the carpets, particularly in the annex, the hotel is well used but would I call this Four Star? I am not convinced. Would I come again? Extremely doubtful. Would I recommend the hotel? Probably not. Could it have been better? Yes, it has potential.
The local skiing was fantastic!
