I stayed here for 3 nights in late November. It was very cold in GAP, already with lots of snow on the ground. When we checked in we were walked to our room on the 2nd floor of the main building. We thought it was a nice touch until we realized that the reason was that the desk clerk had to put a space heater in our room. She informed us that there was no heat in the hotel! If we hadn't pre-paid for our room through Orbitz, I would have checked out right then. The space heater really only heated an area about 6 inches around it -- seriously. So if you were not essentially touching the heater, you were freezing. Both people in the bed could not be warm at night, and either the person in the bathroom or the person in the bedroom had a small amount of heat, but not both. We asked for a second heater but were told that there would not be enough for other guests if we were given two. I thought that for the $100/nt I paid they could purchase a 2nd heater for the room, but they did not agree. I asked for a discount since it was actually warmer outside in the sun. They refused that as well. The lack of heat issue really ruined my visit to the area because I did not want to spend anytime outside since I knew there was no chance to warm up upon return to the hotel. The second night we were there another couple checked into the room next to us. We could clearly hear everything that went on in their room as if they were in the same room as us. We did not miss even one syllable of their conversation. The threadbare carpet in the common areas did not bother me much, I thought it sort of added to the charm of the place, but I did not like the lack of sufficient lighting in the hallways. The breakfast was good and the person who attended it was very friendly. However, we, as well as the other guests, had to eat wearing jackets, gloves, and hats. The front desk seemed to be manned by two girls. One was very friendly and seemed to go out of her way to be pleasant. The other was a little less so, but still pleasant in a more reserved way. She was the one who refused the extra heater and the discount request. If the heat had not been an issue, I would have found this hotel to be somewhat charming, but I would not stay here again. The pleasant staff and good breakfast cannot make up for the thin walls, lack of lighting and overall darkness of the place.
