Our room was lovely -- comfortable, clean and up to date, with a spectacular view of mountains, the church, and lush green hillsides. It's worth paying extra for a balcony. The place is only minutes from Berchtesgaden, but it seems set in a private world. The photos posted by an earlier reviewer are excellent, yet no photos really do justice to the setting.

The innkeeper, also the chef, is quite helpful, and he does speak English. The restaurant serves good traditional food.

We had a wonderful stay at the Maria Gern for three nights. The location of the hotel is outside the town of Berchtesgaden but well worth the beautiful scenery. The breakfast was very good. On Sunday night, they had a Bavarian ensemble that played in the hotel restaurant and it was great entertainment. There is a church located on the property that is very lovely. The hotel was very clean. I would recommend this hotel!

This hotel is located on the side of a mountain behind a quaint (and old) chapel. The view from the balcony outside our room was breathtaking.

The rooms are modern, spacious, and comfortable - there is no elevator, so we only carried what we needed for the night and the next day's clothing.

The owners and staff are friendly and fun, the food was outstanding, and on Thursdays, the only night we were there, they have a Bavarian band that plays (and jokes) during the dinner hours.

We saw several people with walking sticks and backpacks passing by, so it appears to be a popular area for hiking and bicycling.

I highly recommend this Hotel to any travelers to the Berchtesgaden area.
