“Great hotel with modest price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2010

The hotel is located on top of the hill overlooking Ansbach, which is fine if you have a car, but a little out of the way if you don't. There is free parking across the street. The rooms are spacious and clean. We had a wonderful view overlooking the city.

The free breakfast buffet was fantastic. Bacon, eggs, sausage, hot and cold cereal, yogurt, a wide variety of cold meats, cheeses and jams, plus a selection of pastries. Service was also excellent. They had an in-house restaurant and bar, but we did not sample the fare.

Ansbach is nicely located 40 minutes from Nuremberg and 30 minutes from Rotenburg. It is a great central base for touring the area and the room prices are a bargain.

“relaxing- clean, great service, nice view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

My husband and I spend 2 nights here in May 2009. We got a good weekend special price over the hotel homepage and really enjoyed this 4 star property.
We came to hike in the area, so a few times we came back muddy and wet because we had a few thunderstorms this weekend. We were clearly the worst dressed people there, most of them seemed to be a bit more fancy or on business, but the staff treated us just the same as the white shirt and tie guy next to us.
The room were very clean, the bathroom also and the balcony spotless. We had a nice view over the town, though 2 large chestnut trees sort of blocked the best parts of town. Nevertheless it was beautiful.
You get a minibar, an electronic safe, phone and TV in your room. Bathroom had bathtub with shower curtain, all clean, no mildew.
The beds were comfortable, but somewhat soft and bouncy. The duvets seemed too thick at first, but were fine in the end.
The breakfast included in the price offers a choice of different teas (you can serve yourself or you are served at the table), coffee, rolls, breads (toaster provided), croissants, muffins, cake and dry breads. Also choice of 5 cereals, fresh fruit, different yogurts and creams, also fruit salad. Hot food was bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. They also offered a selection of jams and jellies, also Nutella and different cheeses and wurst (like pastramis), even some sort of fish. The view from the breakfast room is spectacular, too.
There are just 2 things that weren't so great. For one thing, unless you are a hiker, you need a car in the area because there is nothing around it, not even a store or anything. We always took the car to the city, because the hill is steep going back up. You can walk it, of course, but it will be exhausting. The good news is the spectacular view you get in no other hotel and also there is plenty of parking any time of the day, and it is free outside. You find that with no city hotel.
Also, there is no AC. We were there in early May and the room heated up during the sunny parts of the day pretty much. There aren't any blinds, either, only curtains to darken the room. As most rooms are looking to the South (all with balcony do) you will feel the heat in summer I am sure.
Nevertheless, this was almost the perfect stay.

“Wonderful view!”

We stayed here for 4 nights while traveling and visiting son in Ansbach. The "short walk" UP the hill is NOT easy- especially when backpacking. Take a taxi- it's cheap and fast!
We had a room overlooking the city with a great view! Our rooms were wonderful, quiet, and cool. We had the buffet breakfast and it was even better! A very good selection of Intercontinental food. We were able to enjoy meals on the balcony/patio outside. Service was very good. Would highly recommend this hotel!! I'm already planning a trip back there for next summer!

“Great Hotel, Great view”

I stayed here for one night whilst in the area on business. The hotel is situated on top of a hill overlooking the town of Ansbach. The views from the hotel restaurant and terrace are stunning. Eating dinner from this location was an enjoyable experience. My room was located to the rear of the property, but still had good views over the local countryside.

The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. check-in was prompt and hassle-free. Food was excellent quality and service was good. Hotel has a sauna and solarium in the basement. Brits beware as the dress code here in German saunas a little different to the UK - no clothing required! Once over that inital revalation I found it a relaxing experience.

Overall I liked this hotel a lot and I am surprised that there are so few reviews. Worth checking out if you find yourself in this area of Germany. I even had a good laugh in the bar with some US Army officers.

“A good hotel retreat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2007

Arrived by car after determining from the internet that there might be issues coming via train. Didn’t know for sure
how far it was from HBF even tho the advertised distance on the hotel site was 800 meters. Check in went smoothly
and we were told how to get to the room. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. The 5-Star didn’t seem to
have any lobby help but we were used to dragging our bag. Elevator to the 3rd floor and into the room. Good size
room and patio to the city view. All appeared according to the reservation.

The duvets were plump and the room radiator poured heat on demand. Room safe was digital and operated
faultlessly. Carpet was a bit out of date and had a few cigarette burns. (It was a non smoking room but maybe not
since it was remodeled last) Room was clean and neat as a pin.

Shower door just would not close off enough to assure not getting water unto the floor. Otherwise the bathroom was
more than adequate and equiped as expected.

Breakfast was pretty standard. Full assortment of fruits, breads, cereals, and juices. Scrambled eggs and sausages in
addition to the standard boiled eggs. Cheery and bright in the morning and the windows made it a showpiece
overlooking the city. This would really be special when the patio could be used in the summertime.

Sauna area was very dated. The sauna itself was stained either from lack of cleaning or improper use. It was an 8-10
person and warmer than most. However the cold plunge was empty and when I tried to fill it only cold water
worked. Since that water was too cold I depended on one of the two showers to temper post sauna. There were 6-8
lounges to relax in but the workout room had only a bike wind machine and a few bench weights. Lockers were
available but in various states of disrepair so couldn’t find one that was lockable.

Since the hotel is on a hill and a bit isolated from the city you are either dependant on car/taxi or hotel bound.

The restaurant looked up to its task and entres were in the 10-15 Euro range. A few items were more expensive and
adding the drinks and maybe a dessert made it above normal pricing.
