“Good location - Retro feel - in a good way!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Royal. Staff was very helpful and fluent in English. Bathroom featured double-sinks and a bathtub as well as a shower. As usual in Germany, room was immaculate. Free Wifi was a plus!

I did not have breakfast. It was pricey and there are MANY food options in short walking distance. Coffee Fellows on a nearby street was a nice option for NY style bagels!

“Retro. Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We only stayed over for one night en-route to the Schwarzwald, arriving late. At first I thought the decor was garish with ugly green carpets, but eventually came to like the retro feel of the decor and furnishings. Room large by European standards, great bed and large bathroom. Typical German, everything works and is well maintained. Staff a bit aloof, but very professional. Best possible location, all amenities and shopping within walking distance. Free WiFi. Will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room

“3 days close to centre of Stuttgart”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

A 1979 time warp, perfectly preserved :-)
Well maintained but a little dated... Personally, I loved it!
The staff were EXCELLENT at every moment.
Reasonable pricing and great location for easy access to centre of town.

“Fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

I used this hotel for a 4-day conference at Stuttgart Messe. Hotel is VERY centrally located with good neighborhood and few 100 meters to either subway (25 min/3,40EUR to airport/messe) and to the large pedestrian street in the old city centre.
The basic single room is not big, but very comfortable and with usual amenities (no safe though, but this is Germany so no problem), great bed and large bathroom with tub and shower. Desk with window view, internet WiFi at no cost and 25 TV channels (all German except CNN). It is a bit old fasioned in decor, stuck somewhere between the German style and 90's int'l style, but who cares. Staff is excellent and very helpful (and always around).
Don't know the restaurant, but breakfast buffet is great, although you cannot order aside from what is there. However this is no problem as there are many things.
I would definitely use this hotel again, if coming back to Stuttgart!

Room Tip: Many levels of rooms and at varying prices. Saw a suite: very big!

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

This hotel is in need of a renovation - it looks tired and outdated, it's rather noisy and the carpet (even on the walls of my bedroom!) smelled of cigarettes, although my room was supposed to be non-smoking. In my bedroom I found several pieces of a broken glass from the previous guest (but the maid was very apologetic the next morning!).
Finally, our stay was overpriced (possibly due to the convention we were attending, but we wished we had picked another hotel).

On a positive note, staff were nice (even if a little distant), breakfast was ok, free internet everywhere was a sure plus and the location of the hotel is ideal as it's right in the city centre.

Room Tip: Ask for a real non-smoking room and no wall carpet
