Stayed in Bavaria Hotel Muenchner Hof for three nights last April (2004). It's a short (3 stops) tram ride away from the city centre in a safe residential area. Traffic can get a bit noisy. Tram tickets are available from the reception. We did not socialise in the area, preferring the city centre - there didn't seem to be a great number of restaurants or bars around there anyway.
This small hotel is very unprepossessing from the outside - our hearts sank a little when we saw it. Once inside though, it's more cheerful with friendly staff who - for the most part - have a good command of English
The rooms are small and spotless, and were cleaned every day. Bathrooms are adequate - again were very clean, but a bit old-fashioned. A nice buffet breakfast (cold meats, cheeses, breads, yoghurts, tea & coffee) was provided downstairs. The hotel does not have a bar.
Other travellers were weekenders like ourselves - all German Overall it offers excellent value for money. I'd have no hesitation in staying there again.
